2 seater vs 2+2

If the twins came in a 2 seat version would you prefer that over the 2+2?

Not for me. The 2+2 is great because it means when you fold down the back you have use-able space, and in a pinch you can actually fit another person, or maybe two back there which Ive done with my nephews.

On occasion I pass an S2k on the road and while admiring it I think about how I could never use it as a DD.

No.
Having the extra space in back and the fold-flat rear seat is what sets our cars apart from the S2000, Miata and MR2 Spyder.
That and those are convertibles. :-)

The back seat may not be big but it makes the car quite a bit more practical. In cars like a 350z or s2000 if you have someone with and a bag or two in the trunk and you are out of space.

when i first got the car i wouldn't think i would ever need that tiny space they call the back seat. a week later i had 2 ppl in the back cause i couldn't let them walk 1 block in the rain. So yes I would not get the 2 seater. There will also be a situation where that back seat becomes useful. My work backpack is ride there all the time too. better than having it in the trunk.

If both options existed I'd probably buy the two seater because racecar but I am very happy with the utility of the 2+2 with the fold down seats, I've fit bikes and 4 people and all sorts of stuff that would have been very difficult if I was in a Miata or S2000.

I would love just a two seater. If done right, the trunk could be bigger than ours.

The 2 backseats are great for when I have to pick up my daughters from daycare in an emergency. Also, it adds to the storage space of the car when not in use.

For the car to be a 2 seater it has to do a lot to justify the inconvenience of having only 2 seats.
-350/370z = 2 seaters and yet weighing more than the twins!
-s2000 = bad daily and a convert (IMHO I think converts are utterly pointless)

The cayman was the only car I thought I could justify buying even though it is a 2 seater. Has the combination of being fun/sporty like the twins/s2000, but is a better daily than both. I think the new stingray might also be a possibility. However, both of those cars cost more than 2x the twins.

Oh, if they offered a 2 seater twin it would have to offer a good amount of weight savings to justify it. What would be the point of it weighing nearly the same and perform the same, but you lose the utility of 2 extra seats?

2 + 2 ftw. The back seat is tolerable for circumstances where you need to bring more than 1 passenger. I have a Griots trunk organizer that is perfect when the seats are up, and when more storage (groceries, etc.) is needed, I just fold the rear seats and slide it back, it's like having 2 trunks 😁

Well, my wife and I put over 88,000 miles on a 2 seat miata. The minimum space took some getting used to, but after our first 5,000 mile trip, we had it down.

Now, comes our FR-S, and during our first 2,500 mile trip, we were still packing like we were in our 5 cu ft trunked miata.

However, it's nice to know the back seat space is there, if we would go back to "bloated" mode when we travel.

This car is a 2+2 so it can be cheaper on insurance. The same goes for the supra. Both back seats served no purpose aside for insurance pricing being cheaper.
