Trade in BRZ on a Evo X?
I just moved back to Colorado from Georgia. I am thinking about trading in the BRZ for an STI or an Evo. While the BRZ was a lot of fun in Georgia the loss of power due to the altitude is horrible. These cars are under powered as it is but its just enough to be fun at sea level. Just wondering what everybody's thoughts are?

Sure. The AWD will also help in the snow, so it makes sense.
I'd go for the Evo over the STI though. I used to own an STI hatch, and recently got to test-drive an Evo X GSR. I was impressed at how sharp the Evo was compared with the STI. The only reason to get an STI in my opinion is for the practicality of the hatch. For performance though, definitely get the Evo.

I came from two evo X's and an STi. Evo X for summer and STi for winter.

Long time lurker here. I was thinking of getting the BRZ as well, but ended up getting the Evo X because my job requires me to make it to work even if there's a blizzard. 4-door is a bonus too. Great performance car and easy to make power. The AWD system is one of the best.

You are just like me. Family, winter state, working most of the time.
Those are conclusion for AWD Sedan. But i am wagin between RS4 STI EVo I am dropping out Evo pretty much because Mitsu is disappearing in the NA market. STI is. Bit disappointing, probably RS4. But if the BRZ STI come out, i m going for it, no question asked, or the 2.5 |

I traded in my Evo X for the BRZ, the Evo X is a better performer then the STi but it has no trunk space and there is always a threat of the AYC pump failing in cold weather (I only used my Evo in the summer). Between a Stage 2 STi and a full bolt on Evo X, the Evo X will pull a couple of car lengths on the STi.
Colorado also has a really good Evo X tuner (Chet Rickerman)

Why not wrx/sti? Evo is a nice car from Mitsu, but I would prefer Subaru in terms of liability/support.

New STI might be an option. Just need something turbo and cold weather compliant.

i had a evo X MR. excellent car, only a few down sides..trunk of course but no big deal, interior aint all that great but niether is the BRZ/FRS. power is awesome, car is rock solid, especially with some proxes 4 tires. but the car EATS gas. from seattle to portland, crusing at exactly 60mph. you might have a quarter tank left. also the tank is tiny! smaller than the BRZ/FRS. i maxed out the mileage to 22 avg on freeway. in my turbo FRS im running 42mph on freeway..instead of a quarter tank left i have a quarter tank used up.

I currently own a Evo X and FR-S and if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably would have got a BRZ/FR-S if I had to pick one car. The only reason I have a Evo X is cause I was stationed at Utah for about 4 years where it does snow and gets icey.
It's a great car, it hasn't let me down or broke down randomly in the last 4, almost 5 years of having it. I drove it across America from Costa Mesa CA to Sumter SC! The only thing that does suck is Mitsubishi support if you need warranty work and the relatively small network of dealers. But then if you plan to mod it, none of that matters as long as you find a good tuner and shop. Gas mileage and range is also a downer compared to the BRZ/FR-S. If this was 4 years ago and the BRZ/FR-S did exist, I'd have it plus some winter beater option, (cheap Honda civic or anything along those lines where if it got hit and totaled, I could care less and just walk away from it). |
