Lexar USB memory won`t play in OEM radio

I got a 64gb Lexar memory stick and formatted to Fat, it will not play in my radio. I got other USB to work. Are all brands USB memory stick compatible with OEM head unit? Does anybody know why Lexar won`t play?

Just a guess, but it might be the 64 gb chip. Some devices are limited to the size chip they can read. Do you have a smaller Lexar chip to try?

The BRZ is limited to an 8GB flash drive. I use MicroSD chips from my old phones, they're class 10, fast, and small in a USB reader.

I checked the manual after my 16gb and 32gb SD cards didn't work with the USB. My 8GBs work flawlessly, so I just split my music. Double check yours, it clearly outlines the requirements so it's good to cross-reference before buying another drive.

You might be able to partition the drive so it's not a total loss. If 8GBs is the limit, you should be able to just partition 8GBs -- or whatever the requirement is -- to dedicate to your FR-S and use the remaining space for whatever you want. Not 100% sure that will work, but it's worth a shot...

Edit: FYI - This will wipe the drive. Be sure to back up anything you wish to keep before creating a partition.

Running a 16gig with no problems on my OEM BRZ Unit, must be different kind of brands, some work, some don't.
I do "load" music on them from within windows, when I use my Mac a bunch of hidden files end up on the USB stick and the Radio tries to play them.
You can actually see them on the display, (_trash, ext.)

32gb USB thumb drive here. Make sure you're formatting the thumb drive using FAT32 (I think that's the correct one to use as I can't load anything greater than 4gb onto it now like HD movies).

Some brands just don't work, for whatever reason. I've got three 32GB MicroSD cards that work on every other device I own, but only two of them work in the BRZ. Tried various ways to format them, used different MicroSD to USB readers, all with the same result.

Out of curiosity what type of USB stick? They types and speeds of them may change interoperability. When I tried running my 16GB it would highlight the icon, then screw up when I tried to play it, and I'd have to turn the radio on and off a few times to get it to work.

Check your MP3 file and folder formatting also.
I been tinkering with mine to get the album cover and song titles to show on the screen.
It's been a headache... Noticed filing pattern changes the load time and also some mp3s don't play.

I dusted off an old 16GB Kingston USB flash/jump/thumb drive formatted to Fat32. Made a quick music folder and dropped in a random album from iTunes. Worked with no issues...plug 'n play. I'm going to mess around with a few other spare drives I have and use some different formatting and see what options there are. I'm sure this is all covered in the manual somewhere...

If you need to reformat an audio file you're having issue playing, try using Audacity. It's free and easy to use. Was actually hoping the splash screen on the NAV had some kind of start sound clip that could be edited - like the stock Subaru image. Planned on making a custom audio file that would play each time the car was started...

Also going to look into video playback as well. If anyone has any experience with this, feel free to drop some knowledge here or PM. I'd like to have a dedicated drive that I can leave in at all times containing some music and a bunch of good road trip movies.
