OBDII Splitter for OFT + Bluetooth Torque App?

Hi all,

This might be a weird question but only seems natural at this point as OFT functionality increases (i.e. data logging).

Has anyone used an OBDII splitter that would allow simultaneous usage of both Torque (via bluetooth OBDII; specifically I have OBDLink MX) and OFT?

Might only apply to niche users but I suspect it might cross more people's minds as time progresses.

There's a previous thread here re: unichip & splitting OBDII

I'm interested in this as well. Mainly, I'm curious if the ELM327 Mini OBDII (bluetooth) that I have would work with the OFT. It would be much more convenient to use due to it being small and unnoticeable under the dash (steering wheel), and of course, wireless.

I have both the OFT and Torque Pro, but I'd much rather just use the OFT for my datalogging since I like to use my phone for other things like Pandora and GPS (and running multiple apps drains my battery even when it is plugged in to the USB port).

For me personally, as long as the OFT is capable of logging the stuff that I actually care about, I see no need to run both. It's still nice to have the Torque Pro app if I ever decide I want to log something that the OFT cannot, but... I'd rather have my datalogging be done by the same hardware that I use to tune my car. Being able to plug the OFT into my desktop computer, upload the data (logs) to the OFT software programs, and then be able to play the with tables based on the logs sounds like a fun project for me down the road (after I become more educated about tuning in general and the tuning on our cars specifically).

Yeah if OFT would work with OBDLink MX that would be great - perhaps some sort of usb/BT adaptor to attach to the OFT?

Sounds like a great idea.

Shiv, is this something that is possible? If so, I would definitely be interested in purchasing the additional hardware necessary to make this happen.

EDIT: I'd still prefer to flash my ECU using the cable (hardwired) just to be safe, but going wireless/bluetooth for datalogging would be ideal.

Agreed on wired for flashing.

For logging, I can see that hardware-wise it shouldn't be an issue as there are microUSB/BT dongles available. If I understand correctly, would just need the software on OFT to manage the BT connection.

You might get a bit more lag with a bluetooth connection than you would with a wire (like for realtime data display). Also I'm fairly sure that the current tablet doesn't have bluetooth built in.

Maybe some time in the future? If nothing else, I'd like to find a sweet way to run the wire and mount the tablet on my dash

The current iteration of the Tablet does not have native Bluetooth functionality but who knows what the future holds for rev2. I think we are still probably over a year away before we start thinking of redesigns.
