DIY: Camber gauge
This isn't a new idea but I was looking for a cheap camber gauge so I built one. It reads in 1/10 of a degree increments and was accurate within .1 degree of what my professional alignment results were. It cost around $50 to build plus I can still use the auto zeroing digital level for other purposes. I drilled the standoff holes for 16, 17 and 18" wheels for use on other applications.
Materials: Sears 10" LaserTrac digital level ($25 refub - $50 retail) 20" angle (iron or aluminum) 1/4" screw to attach tripod mount on level to aluminum angle Something to use as standoffs ($1.60 at ACE) Note: The 1/4" screw isn't necessary if you use angle iron as the level has powerful magnets. ![]() ![]() ![]() The level also has a laser so you could shoot it a a surface and mark it. After making your camber adjustment, shoot it again to verify your toe didn't change. ![]() There you go! This isn't ment to replace a professional 4 wheel alignment but is nice if you want to make quick camber changes for autocross or track use. Last edited by fstlane; 09-28-2014 at 10:48 AM. |
