tire recommendations?
My tires are in need of replacement - does anybody have any tires they recommend for under $120 a piece?
Just some All-seasons would be fine as I don't plan on driving this car in the snow. Thanks! |

Continental ExtremeContact DW. Tirerack has 'em for $110 each. A great tire.

Can you stretch it and get Continental DWS at $129 each?
I have DWS in 235/255 and am happy with them from a DD perspective (also not driven in snow). Still a lot of tread left after 15k miles or so on them. |

The DW will perform better then the DWS in dry and wet conditions. Since the OP said snow will not be an issue, the DW is a much better choice.

Yes but he is in NY and will have to drive in cold and potentially unexpected ice and for sure snow melt/refreeze. If he has another car for winter than sure DW is better, but if this is his only and year round car sans snow, DWS is the better option.

The DW's should not be driven in the snow. Even 1/4 inch of snow will be a dangerous proposition. If there is a chance that you will drive in the snow or in freezing weather, get the DWS.

No, they are the same...they both suck in snow, ice or sub-freezing conditions. I understood your original post as you would not be driving your car in the winter. Since you are driving in the winter, get a proper winter tire. Winter tires aren't just designed for snow, they are designed to work in temperatures below 40F. If you can only afford one set of tires, the DWS would be the way to go, but you will be trading cold weather performance for handling and stopping performance in the months when it is warmer then 40F.

it depends on your size. I have not seen any DW and DWS size 245 above are less than 120 each. They are pretty much close to 160-200.
