2002 M5

so i'm borrowing my cousin's M5 for a few weeks while i do a little bit of work on it. thing's FAST. i don't know if it's really that much faster than my MR2, but the power delivery is SO COMPLETELY different. it has torque everywhere in the powerband, so much so that 6th gear still provides usable acceleration up hills at 50mph, haha.

i love driving it, but i don't think i'd ever want to own one, simply because the cost of parts. spark plugs are $25 each... times 8, haha.

i think what we need is a similar powerband in the FT86 (divided by 2, so 200hp and 185 ft.lbs.).

If you can buy a M5, you are not worrying about $25 spark plugs. haha.

that's true, but you might worry more about $1400 brakes... (new pads & rotors). and making it faster is EXPENSIVE. Dinan's exhaust is $1800 or so.

LOL $1400 isn't bad if you think bout how much gotta pay for insurance. To my point-of-view, if you gotta worry bout how expensive to fix the parts on that car you gonna buy, then that's too expensive for ya.

That's one of reason why I own Coupe Impreza, instead of Hawkeye STI.

I'm not sure even FT86 come with that power ratio you wrote, it's gonna have some feeling as M5. Cuz it's light weight vs heavy weight, so response is totally different even it had some power to weight ratio.

Those M5s are amazing to drive. You can find one in decent shape for 22 grand. Its German...parts and repairs are expensive and are part of ownership...
