This kind of explains how I feel in sixth gear

Saw it on reddit. Pretty cool. One end is the concrete.

Video description:

Each worm/worm gear pair reduces the speed of the motor by 1/50th. Since there are 12 pairs of gears, the final speed reduction is calculated by (1/50)12. The implications are quite large. With the motor turning around 200 revolutions per minute, it will take well over two trillion years before the final gear makes but one turn. Given the truth of this situation, it is possible to do anything at all with the final gear, even embed it in concrete.

So, it will be taking up lash in the geartrain for the next millenia before any torque is applied to the load?

I can't see the video because I'm at work so I'll just say that I occasionally masturbate with my left hand

It's really not that bad on the MT. It's a 0.767 ratio in 6th gear, with a 4.10 final drive ratio. It won't smoke the tires if you floor it at 60mph in 6th gear, but it can certainly get out of its own way. In normal highway driving, I don't need to downshift to 5th until I'm going below 50-55mph. My old LGT had a very similar overall drive ratio in the highest gear (0.78 5th gear and a 4.11 final drive) but weighed 700 lbs more and had 35 less peak horsepower, now that car felt pretty lethargic trying to accelerate in top gear.
