Noise from motor
I recently gave my BRZ (~1400 miles) to the dealership to get the fuel pump replaced (recall due to "chirp" noise). After I got back the car, I am noticing a weird noise from the motor that I am not sure was present before. Anyone else thinks the sound is not normal? Should I get it checked?
Attaching the sound clip (notice around the 6 second mark) |

My car makes the same exact noise at idle, I believe it's just the direct injectors working.

Definitely normal. This car has a lot of tech thrown into it despite the fact that it's supposed to deliver a pure driving experience. What you're hearing as others have said is the direct injection system when idling. Despite the noise, the DI system provides a smoother idle than relying on the port injectors alone.
There's nothing wrong with your question though. You heard something that you hadn't heard before so you posted it. Most likely, you were never listening for it before so that's why you never heard it. It's good you know what the sound is now. That's what these forums are for.

If you ever hear this engine quite or sounding normal, then you should seriously look into it.

Thanks for the assuring responses guys.
So, the DI system isnt always on? Cause when I started the car, it wasn't running and then it turned on after some time. |

When you first start the car (cold start) it's not running solely off the DI system. That's why when you first start it, you see that it idles higher. Once the DI takes over, you notice the RPM drop down and you will hear the DI system (i.e. your initial post) usual ticking. That's the best way I can explain it.

BTW, I am not worried now that I hear that the noise is expected. I am just trying to understand the reason behind without getting too deep into it. |
