Rattling noise at the rear. Not uniform, but happens often.

I keep hearing a rattling noise at the rear, from behind the rear seats and somewhere close to the brake light inside the rear windshield. It's more like a metallic noise, as if some part is loose and rubbing against another metallic surface.

This does not happen every time I get into the vehicle, but happens often. It's random, doesn't happen at any particular speeds or anything like that.

After looking at possible sources, I think the following part might be the one that's causing it. This is on the driver's side, inside the trunk.

Could anyone please point out what is this? An alignment tab or a nut? If I isolate this (Dampen using a cloth or just hold it away from the metal part touching it), I do not hear the noise. (I simulated the noise by tapping on the metal body of the trunk, in the middle, next to the tabs).

Is this an easy fix or should I take it to the dealer? FYI, this is a BRZ Limited.

I watched someone actually bend that piece with some pliers and it solved it.

I was very close to do doing that yesterday, but wasn't sure what the tab was used for and decided against it. Has he had the problem ever since?

Also, do you know what that tab is for? Because I don't want to risk permanent

Thanks!
