What the heck are these?

I just know this is going to be one of those "you don't know what THOSE are?" moments,
but... what are the rectangles on the front of the GT86's? Not seen them on FR-S photos.

TIA.

Headlight washers. They're not on the FR-S because it would bring the cost up.

Edit: I think countries in Europe require these on all cars.

headlight washers are needed on HID in Europe and some Asia countries.

i don't think it's a requirement in US. and since FRS doesn't have HID, it won't have it anyway.

Luxury cars usually have them standard, its 'luxury' feature.
Older Saabs and i think maybe older volves even went so far as to have headlight wipers.

I wish they were standard here in the southern US too... The bugs around this area can be horrific sometimes.

As others have said they are headlight washers. Required by law in many other countries (not the US) with H.I.D. headlights.

My '06 GTI with H.I.D.'s came with them but VW deleted them as well as other equipment for US cars from '07 and on to cut costs.

They still come on higher priced Euro cars (Porsche, BMW, Audi and MB)

So why specifically with HIDs?
