Ecutek stage 2 tune on stock brz

Hey guys,

Anybody know what I expect from an ecutek stage 2 tune on a stock brz? I've only got a drop in air filter but planning to do exhaust down the road.

Would anyone advise against stage 2 and go stage 1?

Thanks

Hi, the tuners recommendation is to go Stage 1 if you only have a drop in filter and then you can ask for the stage 2 tune when you have more mods.

Here are our results tuning a stock BRZ: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47586

A stage 1 tune is typically for a stock or near stock car, stage 2 tunes include calibrations for an exhaust system + other N/A modifications.

That also depends on who you are getting your tune from. Some tuners define their "stages" differently. For Visconti, the stage 1 covers stock or with drop in filters and exhaust. Stage 2 is for people running an aftermarket header. The header and stage 2 package will really help with the torque dip.

Interested. Whats the harm of stage 2 when only possessing stage 1 mods?

probably just no benefit
its like you have to unlock the benefits of stage 2 by having the supporting mods first.

So why even offer stage 1?

Well since they follow up with remote tunes after, they want to give you stage one because that is going to be closer from the start. Less back and forth.

The stages get you close. Then you adjust.

So if I purchase the stage 1 tune(and license) from FA20club, do my bolt on mods after, I can request stage 2 free of charge?

Reason why I want to go to stage 2 directly to save cost on the tunes.

Really? That is a question?

You can get 10-12 whp with a Stage 1 tune and not need to spend the money on intakes, filters, exhausts, etc. So it can save you a grand with a Stage 1 tune.

Depends on the company, some offer Stage 2 for free, some do not. So you can basically go from stock, get all of your parts and get Stage 2. You do not need Stage 1 to go to Stage 2.

I do not have a tune. I am just guessing this is how a tuning company would prefer to maximize profit and customer service.....

If you can't get on a dyno they ask you to summarize your modifications. When it comes down to it they have simplified that even further by saying Stage 1, Stage 2, E85, then all the various FI applications.

So if you tell them you have various mods in which they deem to be Stage 1 they will provide you with a tune that should be very close to what your car demands. They then know that they can offer remote tuning because they have spent time on other cars to establish a base. They won't need much tweaking after that to make you happy. *Now being happy and tweaking is relative.

After both parties are happy with Stage 1, there is no more updating. The tune is optimized. So then you go and buy headers, and header-back pipes, and decide to fill up on E85. Your car is going to require a whole set of new parameters. You have to buy an E85 tune. Now that you have again commited to them and paid them for their services, they will remote tune again until both parties can reach an agreement that the car is optimized.

This is what I have taken away from the boards. I don't have a tune, and have never talked to a vendor about it. Sorry to any vendors if I have not captured purchasing tunes accurately,
