While I have zero interest in a drop top variant, IMO despite the "enthusiast" clamouring for "moar powa" a convertible model would have brought in significantly more profit from the female demographic based on attractiveness alone.

Surprised but no other reactions. Wonder if this means they're pulling back from the idea that this car will start a "family" of models and the 86's lifespan may not be as long as enthusiasts had hoped.

That's a bit funny because a second car was running around in Japan with the Parade just a day ago.
Why would you make two concept cars just to shelve the project, also there is a speculation that there's been some testing of the Open in Japan. Thus this Red Car. There so far is 3 Open concept One made for the commercial, one shown earlier this year, and this one that seems like it's ready to be rolled out Running in Japan. It could really well be what the magazine said, but it wouldn't' make sense to run this car at a big 86 event to show it off just to shelve it.

Idk if I would get a convertible one :/ I like mine. Does anybody know if dealerships will do a reflash to fix the 13 frs/brz idle problem and torque curve dip? I'd like to do that because I heard all the 14s have it

The platform was not designed with room for a convertible mechanism to fold/operate. That said, Toyota is unlikely to market a vehicle with a significantly compromised design.

If Toyota was serious about the convertible .... The platform would have already been PLANNED for both coupe and vert. One member opined that a vert car would bring in "women" buyers. Maybe...... small sample size, but both my teenage daughters do not like my FRS. Too small, too rough, too loud is their teenage comments.
