Harding wiring radar detector

I want to hard wire my radar detector and run wire thru the side pillar. Does anybody know how to open side pillar up, I don't see any screws. Is there a risk of triggering side air bags? TY

It will just pry off ....... but be gentle with it, or you can bugger up the upper catch (the one nearest the windshield).

Pay attention how you route the wire so it doesn't get in the way of snapping it closed.

If you don't mess with the air bag unit itself, it shouldn't mess with you ....

When you go to snap it back on, press in the side in next to the windshield first.....

The problem with invisicord or whatever it's called is that you lose the mute button and LED indicators on the smartcord. Maybe it's worth the time saved if you don't have that capability on your detector, but having the smartcord is worth the extra 20 minutes it takes to hardwire it properly.

I just use the mute button on the face of the radar, less clutter

I think it's a lot more ergonomic to be able to reach it from the shifter, no need to lift your arm up.

Either way works, I just don't really agree with the implication that my DIY is unnecessarily hard - it's more challenging than using invisicord, but it gives you functionality that invisicord eliminates.

yeah i agree, just prefer the ease of install with less buttons around. But both work
