well, on the one hand, if you're gonna run over some people, expect to get a hurtin

on the other hand, the bikes are clear instigators and i think any normal person would be intimidated in such a situation.

Bikers, in my opinion, are fine on their own, but when grouped together they do stupid and reckless shit. Every time i see a group of 10 bikers or more, they are all doing something that could potentially lead to an incident.

So yeah...

and unfortunate set of events

I ride, I've been riding for 7 years...and I avoid grouprides for a reason. Too many idiots in the group thinking its their right to ride however they want. On top of that, events like "Ride of the Century" attracts the worst of bikers causing havoc to public roads.

What did the biker expect when he brake checked the SUV? What did the other bikers expect to their bikes when they parked it right in front of the SUV while they were attacking it? Clearly they did not have their heads on.

For anyone who wants background info: the Range Rover was apparently following one of the bikers too close, so the bikers decided to go into attack mode. The driver had his wife and child in the car, so he tried to escape to save them.

Alright, I have a couple friends who ride motorcycles, and I used to ride too, but holy shit do bikers piss me off so much. If they think that you got too close to them or anything else that they don't like, they start their whole macho tough-guy routine. I recently had a biker bang on my window one time because I tried to pass him (safely, on the left) when he was driving erratically. Apparently I got in the way of him swerving between all 3 lanes on the highway.

Too all the bikers reading this: learn to ride defensively. Yeah, it sucks when someone doesn't look over their shoulder before they change lanes, but you are the one who chose to take the risk of operating a much more dangerous vehicle. Give other drivers space, use your signals, and control your road rage.

what i don't understand is:

how can a 180-pound something squishy sack of bones feel invincible going up against 3000+ pound metal boxes of doom.

biker goes apeshit and knocks on my window, who's to say that won't be the day i snap and simply rum him over?

Problem one: Bikers act like asshats, trying to stop traffic and then road rage on the SUV; brake checks SUV and contact occurs.

- There could have been a simple resolution (just letting the SUV drive away) but with a swarm of bikers and road rage already playing a factor, no civil resolution was anywhere in sight because..

Problem two: The bikers didn't want to let the SUV driver leave. They swarmed him (or her). It's only logical that the driver of the SUV should be frightened and react accordingly when frightened. The only weapon they might have to defend themselves is their SUV.

- I don't know about you but if I'm driving along with my g/f or family in my SUV and a swarm of bikers are posing a threat then I'm out of there. If they are trying to box me in.... Well, some of them are getting run over and I'm calling the police while doing so because I am defending myself. The video here is pretty damning to the case of the bikers.

Problem three: The bikers pursue the SUV in a dangerous chase in an effort to.. I can only assume... cause harm to the driver of the SUV.

- If I was driving the SUV I would be on the phone with 911 and if the cops were nowhere nearby then I would be using my vehicle as as defensive weapon on the freeway. It's probably a good thing that the driver of the SUV did not do that however.

Problem four: After the driver was stuck in traffic on the city streets they start attacking the vehicle.

- This is why I have a CCP (and why I don't live in NY). The moment that helmet broke the window and he was then trying to lay a hand on me, shots would be fired in self defense. I am one man and there's several bikers, at this point I feel as if my mortality is at great risk. Lethal means of defense are completely justified IMHO.

Being a biker myself, naturally I'd side with them.

However I don't like riding in groups due to the stupidity that follows. And having watched the video I'd have to find both parties at fault.

I will say if that had happened here in Alaska due to the very thin gun laws in this state... That driver would have been packing and the whole scene probably would have turned into a firefight.

Guy in the Rover should have been calling 911 and fleeing to their location instead of trying to outrun bikes.

Not one shot fired. Hardly GTA5. Skip to the end for a few seconds of action.

The first bike to get "bumped" by the SUV first swerved into the lane of the SUV, then got in front and braked for no reason other then to be an asshole. Not saying that justifies the SUV running people over, it doesn't. Even with all that aside, the biker didn't need 100+ friends to help deal with what looked like an extremely minor traffic accident. It also wouldn't surprise me if some bikers in the crowd were blowing the situation out of proportion, yelling things, which would certainly scare the driver of the SUV.

Everyone involved deserves to have their license suspended for at least 3 months.

Excellent point, the driver of the SUV definitely should've called 911.

GTA In Real Life? - Range Rover is Attacked By 100+ Bikers

Society is dissolving..

Edit: On another note, I can think of a few places I've lived where it would not have gone down like that.

Couple of things, the guy that gets tapped is hanging out in the lane with the SUV right on his fender, if it was me in the SUV I would've backed off long before that, I'm not sure why the SUV never changed his course or speed. The bike was clearly being rude and reckless. The whole thing could've been avoided if the SUV had simply dropped back off the bikes and was more cautious.

I didn't see any of the confrontation that justified him running people over. I'm not doubting that stuff happened, but I really didn't see anything happen until he mowed people down. Speaking of which, while everyone was too busy chasing the SUV, did anyone tend to the people that were hit?

And finally, the video cuts off at the most crucial point. What happened next? The SUV was obviously trapped and the bikers had the upper hand. It was about to get really ugly. I'd like to know how that got resolved.

There were lots of rumors going around that someone was killed, the driver was beaten into a coma, etc.. Nope. This is what happened:

The New York City Police Department said a man driving a Range Rover with his wife and 2-year-old daughter inside Sunday struck a motorcyclist on Manhattan's West Side Highway, breaking his leg.
"It was an accident," says Lt. Karen Anderson.
The SUV driver pulled over, and the bikers surrounded his vehicle, hitting it and spiking the tires, police said. The driver pulled away, hitting three more bikers in the process, police said.
The gang, called "Hollywood Stunts," according to police, chased the man, and he was forced to stop because of flat tires.
The SUV driver was cornered and beaten, according to police, and he was later treated at a local hospital for slashes to his face and released. His wife and child were not injured, and his name has not been released.
No arrests have been made in the incident.
A helmet camera one of the bikers was wearing captured much of the road rage incident, including the moment when one of the bikers walks up to the SUV and smashes its window with a bike helmet. The video has been posted online.
Police say this same group of bikers descended on New York City last year in what Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said is a "major stunt event." Their intention, according to police, was to get into Times Square, which they did last year.
Police say they were able to prevent the group from entering that area this year. Police arrested 15 bikers in total Sunday, seized 55 bikes and wrote 68 summons for various violations.
They are looking at video footage to try to determine if any charges will be filed in the road rage incident.
"The investigation is ongoing," Kelly said.
It should've ended when the first bike was hit. He was being a douche, and got what he deserved. But no, it turns into a mob mentality and they start damaging his vehicle. He fears for his and his family's safety and rightfully tries to GTFO. Those douche canoes should be thankful none of them were killed. Gotta say, if it me in that situation with my wife and child I probably would have done the same thing. Yeah he probably should've called 911, but you react on fight/flight instinct.

One of the bikes directly in front of the SUV slams his brakes to toy with it and freaks out when the SUV actually taps him. That's when the SUV stopped and was getting pounded on by the mob of bikes, which motivated him to GTFO of the situation. In the attempts to get away from the surrounding attackers, the only way (being surrounded) was over some of the bikes.

Asshats. And a terrible image of bikers as reaction-provoking, alpha male, douchebags with nothing better to do than harass "cagers."
