Aftermarket tails, condensation?
So I am on my second set of stock tail lights and condensation is building up inside of them again.
If I were to buy aftermarket tail lights, I'd likely go with the Tom's style or Crystal eyes.... or any brand that doesnt get condensation really. has anyone had issues with the aftermarket tails getting condensation like the stockers? :happy0180: |

Some have with certain lights, but most ( including toms and valentis) come with new gaskets that seal it better and prevent condensation.
In fact in the DIY section, you can make your own new gasket and stop the stock ones from condensation http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26217

I have crystal eyes, no issues with condensation at all. My stock ones had condensation, tried dealer fix no dice, made my own gaskets and still didn't work. After crystal eyes I haven't looked back.

JDM Tom's are condensation free for me.
Remember, if you over-tighten/torque the bolts on the lamp you can also cause this problem for yourself. |

Seems like some guys here have had luck. I usually keep it stock but my brother has 3 Vehicles with expensive Aftermarket LED tails and they ALWAYS have issues a year plus down the line. Condensation/moisture building up happens first but I hate to spend money then have an expensive part like that fail. I'm in AZ and it's hot and dry so that condensation tells me it's bad build quality usually. Most Aftermarket Tails look great so maybe a DIY to make them more durable would help....

Aftermarket Tail Condensation
My warranty swapped OEM tail lights also got condensation.
One of my Crystal eyes started showing minor leakage so I looked closely with the trunk lid open and saw suds accumulating at the base of the trunk lift mechanism. Its an obvious water channel that continually assaults the top of the tail lights, which can eventually lead to tail light contamination of any tail light. So - for 99 cents I got a pack of snowman snot (sticky gum for fridge post it notes) and made a dam that channels the water away from the top of the tail lights. Seems to work so far , waiting for more temp and humidity extremes to be sure. Will post pics soon. :happy0180: |

As others mentioned, condensation is caused by the gaskets and not usually an issue with the taillight itself.
Call your dealer, they will replace both gaskets under warranty. Believe there was a bulletin that went out for this issue quite a while back so the dealer will be aware of this. |

Condensation
Condensation is caused by water. Water which makes its way into the tail light through, around, etc., the gaskets on a continual basis.
The concept of my fix is to remove the water by flowing it away from the gaskets. So far so good - :happy0180: |
