Am I crazy or are the side mirrors on the FR-S asymmetrical?

Hi there,

New owner of a Scion FR-S whiteout AT (just today actually).

One thing I noticed as I was inspecting the car today was that the side mirrors appear to be asymmetrical. The passenger side mirror is angled more towards the car than the driver side mirror. Keep in mind that I am NOT talking about the glass inside the casing. Of course I know their angles can be adjusted. I'm talking about the actual fixed mirror body itself.

I would appreciate it if some of you guys can confirm that this is part of the design intent, rather than a manufacturing mistake.

For reference, here's a photo I found of the car that is taken directly in front.

What is seen cannot be unseen. I hope I didn't trigger a panic attack for those of you with OCD.

Regards,
Tim

I'm dying. It looks turned back towards the rear of the car more on the passenger's side. Ugh...

Hey man, are you talking about the photo I posted or did you just verify this on your own car? I'm so anxious to get an answer to this.

You know, my wife and I went to a meet one night and I looked over at the car and asked her, "did you push your mirror in?" I thought she pushed the mirror in to avoid someone walking by the car and hitting it. It looked that way from where we were standing.

I guess the passenger side mirror really is "turned in" more. lol.

I wouldn't let it bother you too much.

Are you sure you took this photo when you were 90 degree angle with your car? I don't think so.

I'm not sure how the mirrors look like if you and the car is 90 degree but in the photo you show us, you were not. You took this photo at the position you think you are right in front of the car, doesn't mean you are in front of and look straight in you car and make a perfect 90 degree.

If you don't believe me, open your car in PAINT, make a straight line from the antenna to the front badge, you will see.

BTW, you make me wanna go out and check my car, LOL.

That isn't my photo. It's just one that I found online. And I realize that the photographer may not be dead center. I was just illustrating how I visually see it.

And yes, please do check it on your own car. I'm really curious about this.

I first noticed this on a scale model of the FR-S I was building. I went out and checked the real car--same thing. The FR-S mirror housings seem to be turned roughly at the same angles as the mirrors themselves, which is different on each side.

Which brand is your scale model?

Aoshima "Toyota 86 '12". It was a gift. It has LHD and RHD parts and can be built as an FR-S or as 86/GT86.

Just checked my car and indeed they are angled differently.

1) Ctrl+F
2) "Window" replace to "Mirror"
3) Found 3 instances. Replace all?
4) Click yes.

Just felt like messing with you. Obviously the message was understood.

The mirrors fold manually. Maybe someone bumped into it lightly and nudged it back a bit?

Don't do this to me...

There was one time I thought my passenger side mirror was pushed in a bit, got out to check and it wasn't... I just thought I was being crazy. Gonna look at mine when I go to lunch

The left and right mirror housings are asymmetrical to accommodate the different mirror angles. The mirror assemblies for a LHD car cannot be used on a RHD car.
