BRZ Feather weight, What mods are you planning on doing to lighten up your BRZ?

A stock BRZ weighs in at about 2,700 pounds my plans are to
-Remove rear seating and replace it with plywood and finish it with synthetic leather
- Replace stock battery with an Odyssey Drycell PC680 Battery
- Change out the tire's and wheels with either Works,Enkei,OZ Rally.
- Maybe even do some AST coilovers.

should remove a decent amount of weight and improve the power to weight that will surpass a Ferrari 458 and s200 while still remaining a DD.

Lighter exhaust, lighter battery. Rims will be lighter, but the tires will be heavier, so that's a wash.

Who cares if it's a repost if people take an interest in it. And everyone deciding to comment on it being a repost only keeps it popping up in the recent posts.

Have you removed and felt the weight of rear seating in an Impreza (the chassis this thing is based on)? They're made of foam with some hangar wire sticking out for mounting. All you will do with plywood is ADD weight.

- Replace stock battery with an Odyssey Drycell PC680 Battery

This will net you a little weight, but isn't anywhere near as important as unsprung weight and rotating mass.

- Change out the tire's and wheels with either Works,Enkei,OZ Rally.

Good call, get something as light as you can afford. Compare tire weights as well. You can probably save a pound or two at the furthest from the hub by picking one tire over another. I ran Volk CE-28Ns on my STI and it helped. I also switched to Performance Friction rotors and saved another 5 pounds per corner as well.

- Maybe even do some AST coil overs.

Doubt this will save much weight, but it will change the way the mass interacts with the road, so that's good.

Are you overweight? Since you're worried about weight that much, have you considered going on a diet? Pounds are pounds.

Good luck.

P.S. Really, don't do the plywood thing. Just remove the rear seats if you must. No one is going to want to sit back there anyways.

Rather revive an old thread. There is a reason a search option is integrated into the forum along with Do we really need another price speculation thread? Another what do you want on the BRZ STI? Why doesn't the car have turbo? Mustang V6 is better deal. Can't decide, what color do you like best for BRZ? Should I get AT or MT?

This site has a great search option built in. If it wasn't that easy to search I would understand.

Carbon fiber drivelines are expensive but save some weight... and its rotating weight. I might consider that over a light flywheel... doing both might impede drive ability too much.

Surpass a Ferrari 458 power:weight? Good luck with that. Will need to do more than just drop ~100lbs.

458: 3267lbs/562hp= 5.8lbs/hp

Let's say you are lucky enough to get the weight down to 2650lbs on the BRZ. You would need over 450hp:

BRZ: 2650/457hp=5.8lbs/hp

You will need to do much more than drop some weight to get the same power to weight as a 458. Will need to do a complete engine build+ turbo or straight motor swap which would increase the weight and throw off the handling/distribution.
