I know its been covered but 10 series idle problems :(

Hey guys just joined and loving the forum so far.

Ive had the 10 series for about a month in 4 days time. Odometer is barely at 860 so still in break-in period. But a persistent problem i see is that the idle hunts alot. I know that there was the problem on the original frs last year but i thought it was fixed by a ECU flash.

All of the threads i saw on the topic were from last year and none of them on frs so im at a standstill here.

Problem:
Throttle is hunting at idle. it will be around 600rpm and dips down to 4-500 rpms every few seconds. When i open the engine compartment i can hear a clicking consistent with the idle and the compressor fan(i think its the compressor fan, white fan in the very front of engine compartment), is turning on and off with the clicking. Any ideas? i know its not normal for it to be constantly going that low and the fan to be constantly going on and off every few seconds.

Are you running 93 octane fuel? I know my BRZ idled a bit rough when it was on 92, smoothed out once I put in 93 for the first time.

Check if you Air Conditioning is on. The fan will kick in to blow at the A/C condenser cooling fins which are located right in front of the radiator.

The reason for the constant dip in RPM is also because the A/C compressor is belt driven by your engine;
The reason for the constant "on and off" is because when the cabin temperature is too "warm", it "kicks in" and idles again once it reaches the selected temperature.

Normal, mine drops to 500 RPM very often, and I'm at 1600+ miles.

i believe that's normal while the HVAC is set to Auto with the A/C on, because mine does that too.

although one problem i do have is when the HVAC is set to Auto with the A/C switch on and is set at a temperature that is warmer than cabin temperature, the A/C compressor still cycles to turn on and off every few seconds. you'd expect that while in Auto, the A/C compressor should automatically come on when it needs to, not because the A/C light is on.

Thanks for the insight especially from a fellow 10 series owner. I just wasnt sure if it was a impending problem but i guess its normal.
