First oil change before track day?

Hello everyone,

Right now my car is sitting at around 3,200 miles. In October I will be going to my first track day and I will not have reached the 7,500 mile recommended change by then.

Would you guys suggest that I go ahead and change my oil before that track day? I'm not sure if it is a bad idea to stress the engine that hard on the first oil fill, or if it doesn't matter.

I plan on doing the change myself, would pretty much any fully synthetic oil be a good choice?

Thanks!

I'm not an oil expert, but I'd just change it for the peace of mind. I used Mobil 1 0W-20 as I'm not really OCD about which oil I use. It was fine on the track!

Oh one last thing. I assume that I'd also want to change the oil filter. The general consensus on that is to use the black (no the blue) Subaru oil filter?

If you don't change it the car will blow up spectacularly.

There are some guys that say to keep that factory fill as long as you can, up to the recommended change interval. Something about mollys and dodads. Maybe just change out the filter and roll with the stock fill until the change interval?

Any full synthetic would do well. I personally use Valvoline SynPower because theyre sold at a better price than the other 0w-20 (Mobil1/Pennzoil Platinum)

If you can get some Pennzoil Ultra 0W-30, go with that.

Change and and use an oil with higher moly content, as it continues to cure/harden metals after break in.
I would not run the factory fill with all the contaminents on the track.

I personally would just replace the filter with a OEM black Roki filter and run the factory fill until around 5000 miles. The do a complete oil change using a full synthetic GF-5 0W-20 oil. I would recommend the high moly Mazda oil that sells for $7.00 per quart from your local Mazda dealership. It's awesome oil at a great price. Have fun!

First oil change before track day?

I would only change it if you know that you can get another 500-1,000 miles on the new oil prior to the track day. Otherwise, there's really no rush IMO. It takes time and heat for the ZDDP in the new oil to activate. Even on a car that is fully broken in, wear metals sometimes actually decrease the farther along you are into the oil change interval.

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...Number=1528239

You would need to do uoa's at 1k, 2k, 3k, etc. without changing the oil to see this happening. And I would go with a high moly oil like the Mazda oil above. It's in the factory fill, but the only oils that contain similar amounts to the factory fill and the Mazda oil are racing oils like Motul 300V and Red Line. The old school molybdenum disulfide, that is. Not the new tri-nuclear moly used in lower doses in some oils to achieve a similar friction modification effect as the MoS2 in the above oils.

I would really like to get smbrm's view on this, but haven't seen him post here in a while. Another option is to contact Idemitsu Lubricants of America since they're the ones that made the factory fill.
