If you're looking for more showroom quality stuff there's http://www.autotraderclassics.com/index.xhtml and http://classiccars.com/

Also ebay.com

No first hand experience though, just occasionally browse

Could you be a little more specific? What are you looking for?

There's quite a few "classic" cars out there lol

craigslist

You're lucky you are in a populated area that has a penchant for muscle cars. I just searched for "1965 Mustang" and found at least 2 dozen results within driving distance plus an abundance of parts. It may be a painful process, but nothing worth doing is ever really easy.

Edit: I enjoy typing in years and seeing what comes up, 1964, 1969, everything from Cougars to Rivieras to BMWs to Datsuns to Triumphs to Fiats to VWs and on and on.

If you're looking for a specific car many dedicated forums have a for sale section: ft86club, vwvortex, bmw2002faq etc.

came here to post this almost verbatim ^

You could also head to the cars & coffee type events out there and talk with owners of cars you appreciate. I'm sure they'd not have any issues directing you in a direction. But seriously, Craigslist and autotraderclassics.com...

Another alternative is that if there is a local specialty mechanic (a VW guy or Mustang guy or Nissan guy etc.) they often will do a pre-sale inspection/tune up and may know of a well maintained car going up for sale soon. They may want a cut of the sale though because small business people are ass holes, they have to be to stay in business.
