All point and shoots are designed to break after a certain amount of time. I avoid Sony (all devices, not just cameras) because of their proprietary hardware. That's the extent of my point and shoot knowledge.

I used to sell cameras. You should easily be able to get a point and shoot for that budget but aim a bit higher and get better quality ~$150 range canon should make you happy.

My grandma has a Sony TV and that piece takes so long to change sources. You can't just quickly change to HDMI4 or whatever. You have to click, wait... click, wait... And as far as game consoles go, I don't like Playstation controllers. My friend's PS3 blew up just yesterday and we found out they use SATA hard drives, so I do have to give them credit for using something compatible for once.

And as bad as Sony is, they are better than Apple in the being-proprietary-douchebags area. But Apple doesn't make cameras, as far as I know.

I started of on a canon almost point and shoot i think they called it a mega zoom but whats cool about it is you still have the ability to go manual so you can adjust the iso, shuter speed and use raw. After that i got my first DSLR a canon T3i still have it great for travel, then I wanted a full frame just last june got a refurbished 5D mark II on the canon store site and love it.

What's even proprietary these days? I think nearly all of their products dropped the proprietary stuff a while ago.

I don't know, I don't ever buy any of their stuff anymore, so I couldn't tell you. Apple though... all of it.

Agreed on the Apple part... Sony has definitely listened to their customer base when it comes to proprietary memory, connectors, etc. (Except for Vita it seems)

Well good. I'm a hardass when it comes to giving people my business when they're doing stuff I don't like. But I'm also very forgiving. If they've changed their ways, I will start looking at them again. Although... I don't see needing any new electronics any time soon. I'm pretty set up as I am.

Apple though... LOL
