Suggested R compounds and wheels for CS

Has anyone campaigned a twin in C stock this year? I was considering giving it a whirl on the local level. I don't want to modify the car but I'd still like to hit an autocross or two every month. I was wondering if there was a proven R compound size that worked best.

Any suggestions?

Since Hoosiers are going away from stock next year, it's probably a moot point.

Hoosier A6s would have been your drug of choice. Now you have may drugs to choose from in many different sizes - RS3, ZII, Rival. Check out the RTR thread.

season's almost done, just run what you got and wait until they update the rules for 2014

then you can focus on researching and saving for some high-performance street tires

@Oldfatguy you can run one more year with R comps as Street R, but I don't think there will be many in C Street R. I'd assume most would adopt the new Street rules and go directly to street tires only.

yeah, you can arrive and drive a car without having to change tires and still be competetive, go figure.

I was gone 5 years and had no idea. You had the sense to ask first while I didn't. Bittersweet as R comps are so much fun, but the huge price cut will be nice.

When guys are in it to win... the cost of tires is minimal compared to other expenses. Street tires are cheaper than Hoosiers too.

I know a guy local to me that literally takes a full spare car with him. To go try to win cone dodging championships.

Wow I can imagine. Last local championship I won was in STS on Falken Azenis if that tells you how long ago it was for me. I was thinking of running R compounds only to permit me to run an otherwise unmodded car and be competitive. I don't mind monkeying with the alignment and camber with crash bolts I was just trying to avoid bolting on power adders. How big of a disadvantage will I have if I don't prep to the max in RTR?

RTR is the same rules as C Stock, with the only exception being that tires need to be 200 treadwear or higher. So the only prep available is factory crash bolts, dampers, and either a front or rear swaybar, but not both (that is also a rule change since you last autocrossed probably - they opened up the rule to be a swaybar at either end).

As I understand it the car is competitive out of the box in RTR - most are running OTS Koni yellows, max front negative camber, and a mildly stiffer front bar, 225/45 and 235/40 tires seem to be successful. There are a few good RTR threads in here so you can see people's setups.

@Oldfatguy for legal front camber you'll need 901000394 (Subaru) / SU003-02818 (Scion). It's the same bolt used in the lower strut mount hole.
