Beer. It's what's for dinner.

Being that it is Sunday night/Monday morning, this means I will be getting off of work in a few hours. It is effectively my Friday, since I work weekends only. I need some new beer choices to try. I am well past my 'quantity, not quality' days. I spent nine years in the Army, so I know how to binge drink with the best of them, but my body can't handle it any longer! I love trying new beers, with the darker it is, the better. (Except Guinness. I hate Guinness.) I am also not a fan of IPA's. My favorite beer ever is Julius Echter. It is a wheat beer brewed in Wurzburg, Germany. I had the pleasure of being stationed there for 2.5 years in the mid 90's. I would like to see what other people like to drink. List your top 5 or 10 favorite beers. I will start off.

1. Julius Echter Hefeweissen and Dunkelweissen (Germany)
2. Magic Hat #9 (Vermont)
3. Heavy Seas Marzen (Maryland)
4. Abita Purple Haze (Louisiana)
5. Stella Artois (France)
6. Michelob Amber Bock (Missouri)
7. Highland Gaelic Ale (North Carolina)
8. Barrel Trolley Amber Ale (California)
9. Heineken (Holland)
10. St. Pauli Girl (Germany)
11. Almost any German Bier
Honorable mention goes to Coors Light.

Easily my favorite Hefeweizen. Definitely worthy of its #1 spot in that category. It's world class.

Their Dunkelweizen is also very good.

Some of my current favorites in no particular order:

Young's Double Chocolate Stout
Victory Golden Monkey
Leffe
St. Arnold's Santo

In addition to this, my go-to beer at Texas bars (when there isn't anything better on tap), is a nice Shiner Bock.

I have forgotten about this one. It is a very good beer...but then again, I am partial to German beers!

You also can't go wrong with Ommegang, if it's available in your area. They specialize in ales (most of them are Belgian) and a few stouts, but not much besides that. Earlier this summer I went on a trip to Cooperstown to visit the brewery and it was easily one of the best trips I've ever taken. The tour was great, the sampling was awesome, and the food at their cafe was fantastic.

My favorites from them are their Witte, Art of Darkness (stout), Gnomegang (blonde ale), Three Philosophers (Belgian quadrupel ale), and BPA (Belgian pale ale).

I have a few bottles of their stuff left over from that trip. I also have a bottle of their XV (a 15th anniversary Belgian strong ale) squirreled away that I'm saving for a special occasion. I'm trying to source a bottle of their Iron Throne, a limited release Game of Thrones-inspired ale released earlier this year that isn't brewed anymore, but no luck yet. They have another GoT beer coming out this fall, a stout called Take the Black, that I'm going to jump on as soon as I can find it.

Sounds rough. My condolences.

I'm not much of a beer connoisseur, but Abita Amber is my favorite. It's the only beer I'll drink not trying to get a buzz or drunk.

I'm more of a vodka guy, in which case, Rain is my favorite, but somewhat hard to find, and Stolichnaya is number two, but what I drink most often. The ~$2 extra bucks for Stoli Gold is usually worth it, I think.

It's not that bad. I get four days off a week.

I'm drinking Widmer Hefe right now.

I tend to enjoy local breweries, especially since Mississippi *finally* allowed higher ABV beers last year (or was it two years ago... I can't remember).

1. Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan (Default)
2. Crooked Letter Mystery Rump
3. Abita Strawberry (Whenever it's out)
4. Shiner Cheer (I squeal like a small child when it comes out every winter)
5. Coors Light (Default cheap beer).

I had Shiner Cheer for the first time last year. It's very good for a seasonal beer.

Come on people! Today is Labor Day. Some of you had to have drank a beer or three today!
