Toyota 86 impresses world's automotive journalists

Toyota 86, inspired by Toyota's sports car heritage, has been engineered to embody driving enjoyment. To prove it, we gave some of the world's leading automotive journalists, from Top Gear UK to Cars Guide Australia, the chance to get behind the wheel and put 86 through its paces. The responsive handling, low centre of gravity, driving dynamics and impressive performance, won the critics approval all round. Here is just some of the feedback received:

"86 is light on its feet, not dainty exactly, but super accurate and so well balanced. Off the top of my head, I can't think of a car that handles more sweetly than this. And it's not slow either. On the main straight it hit an indicated 125 mph and that flat four engine, red-lined at 7,500 rpm, pulls with gusto at the top end. Great gearbox and lovely, lovely brakes, too. One of the best driving sports cars of the last decade... You know what to do. We love the 86."
Ollie Marriage, Top Gear UK.

"It's great fun. There's fantastic throttle response, quick, well weight steering and a nice firm brake pedal - no slop, no roll, it's just 100% obedient and alert. 86 is great news for enthusiasts... a great car that trounces its closest rival, the Mazda MX-5 in the fun stakes."
Ben Barry, Car Magazine UK.

"Lively. It feels worlds away from the turgid Celica, much more refined than an MR2, and far more enjoyable than a Supra... 86 feels more like the first chapter than the end of the book. There's plenty to come and, right now, it all looks pretty good."
Paul Gover, Cars Guide Australia.

"Utterly entrancing old-school sports coupé that brings the fun back to driving. Five out of five stars."
Andrew English, The Telegraph (UK).

86 is creating a stir amongst the critics and now more than ever sports car enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the chance to get behind the wheel and experience 86 for themselves.
Toyota 86 is anticipated to hit Australian shores in the second half of 2012. Register your interest to keep up to date on all the latest 86 news and be the first to know when it is available to test drive.

Im lead to believe the final suggest retail price will be leaked by end next week, if not the following mid week.

Whether the info is intentional let out or not im not sure.

Not long gang.

We will see official Toyo Aus documents and advertisement approx early-mid may, perhaps some smaller document such as these news letter with alot more detail late April.

At best we can hope that people at Toyota can leak info as it becomes available.

Looking into the past...

Pretty quiet day at work, thought i'll take a look at the old papers.

Now... I'm not sure if this is stuff Nick Senior said/promised for the BRZ or something the author of this article just dropping a guess of his own at the price.

If this is the price of a BRZ (BRZ only come in Premium, right?). Then the High Spec 86 would be around the same price, right?

More news! (probably already knew)

Just in today around 3pm EST

http://smh.drive.com.au/motor-news/s...329-1w0d2.html

Quote:
UK automotive news site Auto Express reports the new BRZ model, which could be the first non-turbocharged STI variant, is already under development. The report says the car will be lighter than the standard car, and fitted with a carbon fibre bonnet and roof and lighter racing seats. It will also get a sporty body kit, lower suspension, bigger brakes and 18-inch alloy wheels....

The entry-level rear-wheel-drive BRZ is powered by a 147kW 2.0-litre boxer four-cylinder engine, and the new version is expected to use the same engine but with a number of modifications to increase its power output to roughly 185kW....

"We can definitely develop the intake system," Atake told Auto Express. "There is certainly room for improvement there." Other changes could include a bigger, more free-flowing exhaust system, changes to the engine's valve control and a higher rev limit...

Atake dismissed suggestions of a turbocharged BRZ, claiming there's no room in the engine bay for the required hardware...

Both the Subaru BRZ and the Toyota 86 go on sale locally around June. Pricing for both cars is expected to start close to the $35,000 mark.

Those models don't add up to want was in the Toyota internal document leaked the other month. I don't believe there will be 3 models. There's also no way we will get the same pricing as Japan. I say add another $5K.

Sources tell me the Aero is a late edition to the line up. Hopefully ill know more tomorrow. But its not my information to leak so i cant morally leak anything till i see it elsewhere, making it someone else's fault the info leaked, get my drift.

As mentioned before from another forum.

"I learnt the price today of the entry level car and it is below what we had all thought. Toyota Australia has done us proud!

There will be 3 levels of cars, 86GT, 86GTS and then out of June production an 86 GTS Aero. "
