Back to the Future Yamaha R6!

I was Willow Springs yesterday in hot pit lane about to go on the track when this incident occurred. This is common with the 06/07 R6's since the gas tank lip protrudes past the frame. In any case where the bike would lowside or highside and contact with the ground, it would spark in a ball of fire instantly. I sold my '06 once I started to read about the many R6's burning up on the track.

*This not my onboard vid and the incident starts around 10:30

Happy no one was seriously injured in that incident. Looks like it could have been a lot worse.

Like the tittle, fits perfectly for this video.
That's pretty crazy the R6 can go up in flames like that.

Ouch! I've heard from some friends of mine who still ride that there is a problem like this. I didn't know how bad it could get.

Wow that's crazy. I thought the guy got caught under the bike. Glad nothing seriously happened to the driver.

So I am a little confused. Was he at such a sharp angle during the turn that the tank scrapped the ground and caused a hole or did he lay the bike down and as it slide on the ground it opened up?

Not possible.

From the position of the bike, I'd guess he locked up the front brake and lowsided.

Most if not all of the track days I've done at Willow always resulted in someone either highsiding or tucking the front in this exact area. It is either at the apex of T3 to the beginning of T4a where that bike ended up.

The problem with that turn is that it's very off camber and in the middle, there is a significant dip that if you hit it right will upset your suspension.

I really hoped the rider was able to get up to 88mph, generate 1.21 gigiwatts so he can take his punk ass back in time! This killed a lot of track time, about 45 mins and once the storm clouds rolled it, there wasn't that much track time left in the day.

BTW, the control rider helping the guy cross a live track AND then standing not only near the bike but also on a live track is just bad practice.

Thanks. I know little to nothing about racing motorcycles other than that it looks like a crazy amount of fun.
