Who picked up the chromecast? google?

I usually use the appletv, but I'm pretty lazy to turn things on so sometime I just use the ipad on my bed, but the appletv helps with presentation and stuff. This chromecast is such a cheaper and smaller alternative. Portable and wayy better than the roku. The roku gave me problems. Who has it? What do you guys think? Anyone going to get it?

I got one launch day. It's pretty cool for playing youtube off of your computer or phone but that's pretty much it. I figure for $35 it's not bad, especially since they throw in the free 3 months of Netflix which is basically $24 I don't have to pay for my normal subscription.

It's no AppleTV.

I got one, managed to get the 3 months netflix free, and this makes what i was trying to do with a 20ft HDMI cable work even better lol. I had bought an HDMI cable and used cable staples to mount it onto the walls so i wouldn't have to step on it or worry about my dog chewing on it, it worked for about a day and the cable died. Ordered the chromecast and it works really well for watching youtube and netflix lol and i don't have to be stuck at my desk to use it either lol. Hopefully a lot of app creators take this and do some awesome stuff with it.

For anyone still wondering about the chromecast. Its well worth the $35. It can do more than cast youtube. I cast downloaded movies and shows to my TV daily. Thinking about cutting my cable and buying a Roku3.

How do you get downloaded movies onto your TV? I thought chromecast only lets you play video's off of a 'google' browser... and the only thing that comes to mind are internet videos you can play from on Chrome.

Just bought this the other day. Its definitely cool, but was disappointed it can't cast out amazon prime movies. This is my fault for not reading (thought it said it could haha).

There is a workaround however, just need to disable silverlight and run the movies through flash player on amazon, but the quality suffers.

Compared the two, went with the Roku 3.

Netflix and Amazon apps are there, since we cut the cord a long time ago. I don't bother with Hulu. I run Plex Media Server and there's a Plex app for Roku, so I can stream 720p or 1080p .mkv files from the NAS to the Roku. I believe Chromecast supports it now too, but at the time of purchase it wasn't supported.

Biggest reason though? Wireless headphones, probably. The remote control has a 3.5mm jack in it, and when you plug in a set of headphones it kills audio on the TV and outputs it wirelessly to the headphones. So we can watch TV in the bedroom without disturbing anyone.
