alignment question

I got my car aligned today. The technician told me +0.16 and +0.17 toes on the rear were fine due to 2 degrees negative chamber on the rear.

Is that true?

Did he know that you have an eccentric bolt for the rear toe link that could be adjusted? Not sure if you have any other mods to the car, i.e. lowering springs, coilovers, LCA's, etc.

no just swift springs 1". He just told me that positive toes are necessary for 2 deg negative chambers on the rear. Is that right?

Are you sure he said positive toe as in the rear wheels are now toed out? The suspension is designed so that as it compresses the toe increases. Just lowering the car will result in the rear tires having increased toe out. I believe most folks have posted their experiences with a 1" drop that they've been able to get toe back in spec.

If the rear tires are toed out, then the rear end will feel a bit loose. That's why most recommend 1/16" of toe in on the rear to help stabilize the rear end.

he did not recommend me zero toes on the rear because it will wear faster my tires. I got no clue. Might to call his boss tomorrow to verify.

Edit: I just calculated, if 1/16" of toe in on the rear is recommended, then my toe per wheel should be 0.15 deg. I thought positive toes are supposed to be on the rear wheel drive? No?

Positive toes = toe in right?
Negative toes = toe out.

Then, +0.16 and +0.17 differ much from +0.15 degree?

Well. . let's clear something up. In your OP, are those numbers degrees or inches? Some alignment machines will show inches. My screenshot of my alignment shows 1/16" toe in. All depends on how the machine is setup.

Normally, positive toe in means that the tires slant inwards when going from back to front. Negative toe out means the tires slant outwards when going from back to front. So if you have positive toe in of .16* and .17*, then you're fine.

Yes, those numbers are in degrees unit. Not in inch. Im just confused by people who told me to go zero all around.

I'm running about -1.3 deg of camber and .12 toe in for the rear. A little bit of toe-in on makes the car feel a lot more stable at speed. As long as you're toe is in, you should be fine.

Some like zero toe for a more neutral handling car and reduced tire wear. With 1/16" of toe in, you get more stability in the rear and tire wear should still be fine. It's when you have too much toe in/out that can tear up a tire quickly.
