F/I in SoCal
Hey everybody,
Im in the process of thoughtfully making a build plan for my FRS. In consideration for performance mods, I was wondering if any F/I guys can explain how their kits are handling the daily driving in SoCal? Would any type of F/I pass our strict smog checks? |

Just keep something with a cat in the garage for when registration smog check eventually comes, other than that run catless, enjoy your gains, don't drive like an asshat and you won't be hassled for smog. A few of the vendors offer catted headers / other pieces of exhausts if you are that worried.

Daily driving my car with a turbo is fine. There is no FI kit that will pass smog. Vortech and Innovate are 'trying' to get CARB certification, but we'll see. I would not rely on that.

You will need to "know a guy" when it comes time to smog. Good news is that you have 6 years (I think that's what it is) to figure it out.
I know that @whataboutbob DD's his innovative supercharged FRS. |

Supercharging is probably going to be the easiest way to get something CA legal.

While attending 86 Fest today I had a long conversation with the Innovate guys. They said they are pending CARB approval. The over-all ease of install and almost no maintenance has made it a really viable option for me now; Plus I'd be able to keep the cats!
