Dealership Problem

So my friend recently bought an FR-S a couple of weeks ago. My friend signed for a 72 month loan term but the dealership accidently put a 75 months. The contract has been signed already and now the dealership has been caling to make it a 72 month term again. On top of this, the dealership keeps saying the social security number might be wrong and they want to verify it over the phone. Should my friend be worried about all of this? Thanks guys

Can he go verify it himself at the dealership? I personally don't like giving that type of info over the phone.

Alright thanks. How about them trying to change the term from 75 to 72?

I doubt that it would really change his payments much to do that, but I'd suggest if he does allow the change to carefully verify all paperwork so that the interest rates and ect. aren't jacked up. He should also attempt to get some small compensation for having to put up with THEIR mistake.

Does your friend know what bank has his loan? I would call the bank and verify the terms of the loan, and the social security number.

Otherwise like the others said, your friends needs to go back to the dealer and sort this out. But I would be very leery... Make sure the dealer is not trying to pull a fast one by adding additional fees or increasing the interest rate.

sounds very much like a bait and switch.

Dealers have been known to intentionally put wrong information in the contract and then call the buyer back to inform them of the mistake. They'll ask to have the "proper" papers signed but the new paperwork includes extra fees or a higher interest rate.

If the buyer refuses to sign the new papers with the extra costs, the dealer might threaten to report the vehicle stolen.

If the situation sounds anything like that, it's imperative that your friend CAREFULLY checks over any new documents they ask him to sign and if they are trying to extort money out of him that he just returns the car and walks away.

My dealer tried to jerk me around too, it worked out in my favor but it's very irritating and shady. I would try to contact the financial institution backing the loan first in hindsight.

He has a contract and he has every right to tell the dealer to fuck off. There may be clauses and such but the bottom line is both sides agreed to it, it's a done deal.

Edit: they both have copies of the sales contract, if I'm not mistaken SS number is on that, he should be able to "verify" by saying it is correct on the sales contract.

You should tell him to really lay into the dealership. Telling them that because THEY messed up the loan they need to pay those remaining 3 months. They won't agree to that but it might keep them from trying to tag on extra fees.
