Wheel + tyre weight
It would be good to get a thread together of information of the weights of different wheel AND tyre combinations.
Wouldnt have to have pictures, just a list of text in the first post that could be sorted alphabetically, and therefore easily searched/referenced. Everyone worries about wheel weight, without looking at tyre weight. You could argue the tyre weight was more important, as it is further out. I'm thinking something that would just list 17x8 Wheel name 20lbs 235/40 Tyre Name 15lbs Total 35lbs username (source) I don't mind maintaining it, if it looks as if its going to be a bit of work, that no one else wants to maintain. Perhaps for now, reply to this thread if you have the info above, to start the collection of data. Cheers Mike |

Maybe just make a tire weight thread? There is already an thread with wheel weights that is pretty extensive. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11454

Isn't there a flip-side to all this, where a lighter tire usually means a softer sidewall? I think that was the case with the Conti DW (very light for max summer, but soft sidewall). With a wheel, at least you can forge the wheel or flow-form cast the rim to increase strength, but there may not be much you can do with a tire.
Long story, short -- not sure the tire is the right place to look to cut weight.

There are going to be a lot of combinations if you want to continue this thread. It's better by visiting tirerack for tire weight and do your own research on the weight of the wheels.
