Lug Lock nuts - confused with type etc

Bought a set of rays second hand for my 86 but having never changed wheels before, slightly confused with the lug nut situation. Have also seen reference to hubcentric rings, I didn't get any with the wheels but do I need them?

Went down to a local shop who told me I needed some expensive brand name lugs to suit the wheels, don't recall the brand but I almost fell over at the price and walked out.

My searching here leads me to believe the the OEM lugs already have the correct tapered base to suit the aftermarket wheels so can I just use them until I find a lock nut set?

I've found a couple ideas from searching the forums, price in either case is fine.
McGard Spline Drive Black Lug Nut Installation Kit With Locks 12 x 1.25 (lugshack)
Volk Racing Rays 17 Hex 12X1.25 Lug Nuts (rallysportdirect)

I don't want any pretty colours or need light weight lugs, just normal ones that will hold my wheels on tight regardless of how many times I remove them!

Appologies if this is listed in a FAQ somewhere, I searched a lot of threads, info overload

My stuck lugs worked on my CCW classics.

I used one stock lug on my rpf1s and it scratched the inside of the wheel where the lug goes.

Yeah I tried one and looks like the same thing. The taper on the OEM lug nut isn't deep enough so looks like the hex part is touching the taper on wheel hole (if that makes sense?)

Tried a few local wheel shops and all I could find was bling aluminum stuff for crazy money. Do I take a gamble with lugshack and hope they turn up quick and the right thing?

I have the McGard ....... they work great. And yes you need hubcentric rings. Got them from Costco for $3. 89lbs ft pounds is the torque for the lugs.
