What is the most fair way to compare cars for street use?

Personally, I feel price or cost is the most fair way of comparing performance vehicles for street use. I know there are many other ways, such as HP, engine size, etc. However when someone is going to buy a car, they are usually limited by money. If they are sports car minded people, they will probably buy based on performance within their price range, so it wouldn't be fair to compare a $25,000 car to a $50,000.

How about mods? If someone buys an FR-S for $25,000 and then spends $10,000 to make it faster, I feel it is then fair to compare it to a stock $35,000 vehicle.

Any other opinions?

Mod to stock comparisons are usually pointless depending on what you are trying to demonstrate. Many dont even like new vs used.

I don't even like used vs used. It's impossible to know the true condition of the car without taking it apart.

Stock vs stock in a given price range, or with a maximum budget, and the same class of vehicle. No sense doing FR-S vs Tacoma comparisons.

It's an individual decision. Cost, maintenance, mileage, cargo/passengers... list goes out to there -->
That's why there's so many makes/options available.

Though the lightweight GT platform has been on hiatus for the last 20 years. Welcome back.

Probably the best way to compare cars for street use is to stop looking at numbers and go test drive. Compare how they look in person. Sit inside and compare how their cabins present themselves to you. Compare road manners, etc.
