Brake Judder
Did a trackday last weekend and now my pads are squealing. I also have a whole lot of judder coming back through the brake pedal.
Am currently running stock calipers and rotors with Ferodo DS2500 pads, stainless steel lines and high temp fluid. The car never ran out of brakes on the track (no pad or fluid fade). It's possible that the pads may have glazed over (need to check). Rotors are worn but seem to be in good condition (no cracks, heat spots or pitting and the pad material transfer looks pretty uniform to me). Main issue is how to solve this sudden judderiness. Am planning on swapping in fresh pads and fluid shortly but unsure what to do about the rotors. Can they be fixed (re bedded or resurfaced)? Would replacing them with fresh OEM rotors make sense? Would an upgrade to, say, DBA 4000 series slotted rotors improve performance and make financial sense? Or if not, BBK? Curious to hear some suggestions.

I you didn't run out of brakes I'd stick with what works. I'm not sure what you mean by judder, if its what I think it is, you probably have a runout issue with the rotors. I'd replace them.
When you make your final stop of a session, let the car roll to a stop to preven the pads from being in contact with the rotors. This stops the pads from leaving an uneven tansfer layer which is likely the cause of the runout. |
