FR-S, A Rebadged Subaru? (Article)

Saw this comment on a Detroit News article:
"Only one Scion product is doing well this year, the new FR-S sports car, and it is actually a rebadged Subaru. Without it, Scion sales would be down sharply."

Sorry sir, you're wrong.

I give him a 1/10 for the effort. Cool trolling though.

I guess our cars are boring, i guess i'll go sell mine.

I guess i'll go buy a V6 mustang since that's the only right choice.

I guess i'll get the Chinese automatic to go with the all American V6 Ford Mustang.

I don't understand those comments.

100% Grade-A, American douche bag.

Just wrote him my thoughts:

Hi Bryce,
Your article was pretty bad. Especially the, "Only one Scion product is doing well this year, the new FR-S sports car, and it is actually a rebadged Subaru. Without it, Scion sales would be down sharply." part. I didn't know clowns were being hired to write car articles. Please, do your research before writing an article because you are obviously misinformed and clearly you have no idea what you are talking about. Have you ever heard of the brand Toyota? Have you ever heard of the GT 86? Do you know what a partnership is? Do us all a favor and stop writing articles. Save yourself more future embarrassment.
Thanks.

What's wrong with that? The FR-S was branded a Scion badge to save the struggling brand and both FR-S and BRZ are manufactured out of Subaru's FHI plant. Both have Subaru's chassis, drivetrain, boxer engine and lower quality.

I don't understand all the upset.

I have a rebadged Subaru in my garage and I'm very happy with it.

What is up with the circlejerk here? Toyota branded the car Scion because Scion was doing horrible. And the writer is not far from the truth. We are really driving a Subaru with Toyota adjustments and shell.

The car was a joint venture, and I know both companies take credit for it. Without both Toyota and Subaru, the car would not exist today as we know it. I don't think the author had malicious intent. The author was correct about Scion though. Prior to the FR-S, sales were in the crapper. They went from a high of 173K cars sold in 2007 to 49K cars sold in 2011 (US numbers). In 2012 they sold almost 74K cars, so almost double.

You can't really blame Toyota for trying to infuse intrest in the Scion brand. Honestly, without the FR-S, the brand was in danger of going away. For those of you who have some odd phobia about having a Scion or Subaru brand on your car just debadge it and put a Toyota badge on it.

I cannot say that I disagree with anything in that article. Lift your hood and find a body panel that does not have Subaru stamped on it.

That does not make the triplets (GT86/FR-S/BRZ) any less of a great car.

Yep drive anywhere 15 mins and count how many mustangs or Camaros you see. Another reason I bought what I did, just don't see any of the twins.
