Just looking for a few tips
I'm having a single 10" sub in a (easily removable) ported box installed this week. In 20 years I've never had a subwoofer so I'm not really sure what to expect. The 2 things I'm wondering about are dynamat and the door speakers.
1) Am I going to need/want sound deadening in the trunk? Where will I need it? I see some people will just put a big sheet on the trunk lid, some will cut out shapes and only put it on the sheet metal between reinforcements. Why is that? Would doing just the area under the trunk lid liner be useful (so I could keep it hidden) ? What if I also did the spare tire well? 2) Depending on how happy I am I may end up replacing the door speakers. Dynamat there too? I think I'm having a hard time telling the difference between rattling and just plain distortion so I'm not sure if I should maybe try dynamat and then decide whether I want speakers. What does dynamat weigh? I want to keep weight down but if 10lbs can make my car sound a ton better I can deal with that. Assuming I do the trunk and doors, how much do I need?

I got a 10" sub installed on my trunk a Rockford R2S-1X10, and I also installed sound deadning, I used Hushmat, but I'm assuming it's similar to your dynamat.
I got it installed inside the doors, underneat the rear seats, underneath the rear speakers (had mine replaced for a larger size). I did not get any installed on the trunk per se. Granted I had everything installed in 1 go, I don't have any rattles, or any distortion. I don't know if I would have had any if I didn't install it. But so many people recommended I should get it, I did. The folks who did my audio used 10 sheets of hushmat (I don't know if size is the same as dynamat) I can hear less road noise, the exhaust note is more muted but I can hear it more distinctly. at high rev's it still sounds beautiful. |
