DIY side skirts

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...-part-1-a.html

I have been really contemplating taking on this project. I already have a carpenter shop that would route the PVC board for me. PVC board at Lowes is thicker than I want (3/4"), maybe 1/2" thick. But hey if its good enough for the corvette guys the outcome must be pretty nice. $50 vs $200 of something your going to beat to hell.

That actually turned out surprisingly well on the vett! If you got the tools go for it.

Looks good.

Why not find some poly plastic instead of wood.

Yeah, I gotta attempt this. I don't have lottery money to be tossing around at thousand dollar side skirts and junk. Time to hit up some of that out-of-the-box thinking it's claimed humans are capable of.

Going to lowes to get a 3/4"x6"x12' pvc board today. I just hope they can cut it in half for me or I'm going to have a long piece sticking out my FRS trunk. Then I will take it to the carpenter shop and have them round off top and bottom of both pieces, and round off the ends as well, and if the can shave off a 1/4" of the thickness. Then I will take it home, line it up, drill it, and go get some hardware to mount it. Maybe post some pics.

OP Delivers...sorta. I think this will work out very well! But I do see some issues.

Here is my horrible photoshop of a finished product lol

The board is to long right now and I have two ideas of making it shorter. Also it is about a inch ~ to wide. I want the very rear to be flush with the beginning of the rear fender.

For making it the board shorter (its 6' now) i was thinking about curving the front of it down to be completely flush with the OEM "mud flaps", or just take the quick way out and just cut it straight.

Next I need to figure out how to mount it. I'm going to get metal screws, and pretty big washers, but I don't know where to drill under the car? How do other side skirts usually connect?? I couldn't find a good picture.

Suggestions?

Check around some suppliers to home builders for Azek Trim Board. It is available in different thicknesses, however, you may have to buy a 4x8 sheet.

That's what this is! This is not wood. This is trim board/ Polyvinyl chloride / plastic

This is an awesome mod. But as mentioned before, do you actually have to do any physical drilling? the guy in the DIY instructions said you have to "make sure the template holes line up with the holes on the car" but does that mean the car already has places to bolt the skirt on?
