Rearview w Compass?

I'm guessing they're just raiding the parts bin (though I find it a bit odd a Limited trim with push start and auto climate control would come with a manual flip rearview mirror standard) - anyways, for a car that comes standard with Nav system, how useful is a compass in the rearview?

(yeah, I will probably have the nav screen on the audio display most of the time - but the rare times I need a compass, the nav map would be 1,000x more useful.)

it's the same reason for having a watch and a smart phone. sure the phone has a clock, but it's in your pocket. Plus it's the same mirror they use in other subaru cars. they can make more return on investment with products they already mass produce. personally, I would rather have a rimless mirror than a fancy mirror if that were the case. assuming the fancy mirror is an older design they already make and not the rimless mirror they advertise in the FR-S

Sure the compass is redundant, but the auto-dimming isn't. It's nice to not need to fuck with flipping the tab. I haven't played the manual mirror game since I got my WRX (though I have gone through THREE mirrors) so I'm already comfortable and don't mind spending a bit of money on it.

I opted out of the mirror because in my STi I use that wires for my Valentine 1. I hacked off the harness from an old compass mirror and tied it inline with the V1.. I'm hoping it uses a similiar hookup in the brz so it will just be plug-n-play there.

Compass is useless with the Nav system, and I've driven cars with an auto dimming mirror which never seemed that useful to me. I can see why people like it, but I really don't care.

Out of curiosity. Will the auto dimming mirror/compass have homelink? That is every important for me. Or I'll need to have 3 remotes floating around my car.

They had 2 optional mirrors, both with auto dim and compass, one had homelink. (which I opted for bc I have 2 garage doors I'll be using)

HomeLink transmitters are designed to be universally compatible with transmitters that utilize radio frequencies for their operations. Programming HomeLink to replace the remote transmitters for garage door openers, lighting systems, security systems and other functions from most major manufacturers centralizes the controls in one easy-to-use unit integrated into your vehicle’s interior.

Think universal remote for your garage door opener. Don't need a physical garage door opener, just program and your have it on your rear view mirror

Thanks guys! yah I don't need it because I don't have a garage LOL what I thought might be cool if they offered it is one of those mirrors where when you back up half of it becomes a screen for your rear view cam. You prolly don't need it for this car as much as the 370Z one but it's still pretty cool to see it work. 780$ option for nissan though, no thanks.
