Anyone gone miata to frs or vice versa

Hi guys, still debating about which to go for between these two. Like most of you I want the feel and fun from a light rwd car, and cost less of an issue, same with power (sti at the moment).
Loved reading the thread about what cars people had come to from the frs, especially the higher HP cars, but can't find much about miata owner's comparisons. Some stuff on YouTube but nothing to really make my mind up.
Have done a search but can't find anything on here. Using tapatalk tho so might have missed relevant threads.
Not interested in fanboy stuff and even less interested in how I'll do in a traffic light grand prix with any other cars.

I had a NB miata, great car. Short story, fr-s = miata coupe with aftermarket suspension. I needed a better daily driver so I went with an FR-S. No regrets, though I would have kept my Miata if I had the space.

I'm buying a BRZ new, but hoping to buy a junked Miata as a project car. (who wants die before rebuilding an engine?).

Love the Miata, but the BRZ is just gorgeous and fun. As previously mentioned; better suspension (maybe that can be fixed).

Thanks Paul, embarrassed not to have found that thread. I think it has persuaded me towards tte miata, with it going to be a 2nd car and having never owned a convertible.
Hopefully will get to drive both tomorrow.

Drive them both. Just understand how much more impractical a Miata is with no backseat, a tiny trunk, and the convertible aspect for the winter. My parents owned one but lived in Forida where you can actually enjoy it 10 months out of the year. I honestly think it handles as good or better than the twins and has a better gearbox. That said, I rarely see anyone under 50 drive them it seems. I would love an older used one as a weekend fun car, but I live in Minnesota where we have like 7 months of winter

If you're going Miata I'd hold off, the new one is on its way. Joint effort with fiat (alfa romeo) and is being called "the miata for dudes"

Was a miata guy for 6 years, love the FRS. Bought another miata (from @P@ul ) and am thoroughly over them

I was a miata guy for years prior to the frs. Most were turbo (usually fm 2, one voodoo kit). Had na's and nb's. I prefer the mazdaspeed model with fm2 kit as the best of the breed. 260whp in ~2500lbs with decent stock suspension and tires.

I'd take my turbo frs over any of them, but mainly for practicality reasons. Dynamically a modded miata is very similar to a stock frs IMHO.

I just purchased an FR-S and traded in my Mazda, Miata, MX-5, NC (2006).

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 7 years and 88,000 miles, mostly ontrips throughout the western US and Canada, top down in our Miata. Not a bit of trouble with the car.

Why did we trade? Well, mrs humfrz got a bit weary of roadstertraveling (we are in our 70s). A little too much heat, sun and allergy stuff inthe air for her.

The FR-S offers the advantages of a bit larger trunk, a spare tire, a bit moreshoulder room in the cabin and a “back seat” for extra cargo space (not to carrypeople). The cabin is a bit quieter foreasier conversation.

As far as power, they feel about the same. As for handling, they are about the same, for average driving. For track purposes, the miata could use somesuspension modifications (inexpensive and easy fix). Fuel economy about the same.

They are priced about the same.

So, if you’re looking for a roadster, I’d recommend a miata. If you’re looking for a coupe, I’d recommendthe FR-S or BRZ.

I own one of each, FR-S and 2006 MX-5 Grand Touring. Similar in many ways, different in many ways also.

And for that reason I wouldn't want to give up either one of them for the other.

This topic HAS been beaten to death, but I just came from a 2012 NC miata to my current FRS.

I loved that miata more than anything but I'm too tall to own a miata (6'7").

Overall I really like the FRS but they're entirely different cars.

The miata's gearing is much tighter and it has a better sense of speed than the FRS, but it's a bit more limited.

Miatas also have a lot more road noise, but they're a bit easier to maneuver.

Finally and arguably the most important distinction: BODY ROLL.

Compared to my miata, the FRS feels ROCK SOLID through corners. The miata has a huge amount of body roll, which of course could be fixed easily with coilovers, but still.

The difference in the cars stock is extremely substantial and its largely a matter of personal preference.

I STILL miss my miata a little bit but the FRS is keeping me entertained in a whole new way so far.

13 years of Miata year round in Ontario. No hardtop. The Miata is a better winter car.

I was thinking of picking up a beater NA Miata as a project for the next summer. Just so I can ride in a convertible for the season. Then I'll end up selling it in the winter.
