Scion's "Pure Pricing": shopping logistics
With the "Pure Pricing" no-haggle policy in Canada (and the US, I believe) a Scion dealer has to charge everyone the same set price for a particular model. However this does not mean that each dealer has to charge the same price, and they are not locked to the MSRP. So as shoppers some of us will want to find out what a swath of dealers within driving distance are asking.
Does anyone know if Scion dealers are willing to divulge that information by phone? Some traditional dealers are not. If they are not, then maybe we can get a list going here, with each person getting the prices from their closest dealer, and save all of us some leg work. For me that'll be Ken Shaw Scion. |

Pure pricing does not exist in Canada, it is a USA-only thing for Scion. It violates the competition act and is therefore illegal.
Dealers are free to sell for whatever price they want to, just like with any other brand. (If you want to read into why this is, take a look at some of the information from the "Access Toyota" program from the early 2000's, and the lawsuits, etc. against Toyota Canada regarding it. They won't be doing that again.) Jeff

Reading the small print on the MSRP info at Scion.ca, it does say "dealers can sell for less". Still not clear if they must sell to all their customers at the same price or if they are just on the traditional "I gotta take it my manager" model.

MSRP or Less in Canada
I got a call from my Toyota/Scion salesman today to confirm my colour and transmission choice (Asphalt Auto). Apparently Scion was following up on Pre-order selections from their Canadian site (https://www.scion.ca/scion/secure/pre-order-frs). I have had a deposit in since last November and I was told I am first on the list at my dealer.
I asked about a market price adjustment and my salesman said that it was illegal to sell above MSRP in Canada and that Scion would never do anything scummy like that anyway. I am not sure about the law but I hope no market price adjustment is true for all Canadian Scion dealers. He said he had no news until they get the order details and so far Scion had only sent them posters but no other details. Posters!!!.. I asked and he found me an extra one that I picked up on the way home. I can't wait until June!

I work for a Toyota/Scion dealership in Salt Lake City, Utah. For Scion, the listed price is the price you'll pay, period. Everything that i've learned is that they can't change the price. That's the whole point behind having pure price. So that there is no haggling or negotiation. It makes it an easy car buying experience for all involved.
I attended a training class today for the new Prius C today and the moderator said that they would be back in June for the training on the FR-S. If things have followed the current pattern, the cars would show up a few weeks before that so we would see them at the end of May. |

So the max price you could expect to pay at a dealer would be MRSP + $1,495 Freight + $100 A/C tax + $15 tire tax + HST/GST. (exactly what scion.ca tells you)
That's good news from my perspective, I prefer the up front approach rather than haggling. |

I too have heard that a company cannot legally sell above MSRP. Apparently a dealership in the GTA did it and lost their dealer's license.
I pray for a cheap price on this car. It is the perfect fit for what I want. But they better hurry up with pricing, or I will be forced to buy something else! Mississauga Scion is closest to me. I was there last week, and they told me they had no idea when they would get any info on pricing, let alone a test-driveable car.

Immaterial if in fact it is illegal to sell above MSRP in Canada as suggested above. (Immaterial in the short term at least as no dealer will be selling below MSRP for many months.)
