Feeler: Factory Paint Group Buy in Pints

I have an outlet that I can get OE Factory paint for the cheap and was wondering if anyone would be interested.

It would come in pints but if you want more I can arrange that. There are 3 different quality of paints as well. I figured no one would want to cut corners so the straight factory cost would be $95 a pint shipped anywhere in the US.

In comparison a stick of touch up paint goes for $10-20.

Again this is just a feeler, if more people become interested I'll slap a vendor label up and start getting these ordered.

wow, that's $760 a gallon. Scary to think how much it would cost to repaint a whole car, just in paint cost, nevermind labor. /shudder

Yeah, I don't think you're going to get many takers at almost $100 a pint. About 2 years ago I paid well under $100 for a quart of WRB.

what brand/paint system is this? i ask because most automotive paints used on the assembly lines are not the same as production/collision paints. they are electrostaticly charged and drawn to the panel and cant be shot out of a standard gun. also manufacturers do not sell the paint. it might be made by the same manufacturer that supplies the oem, but its def not the same paint system. honestly your best color match is by selecting a shop that has a decent painter, and uses a decent paint system (ppg hp envirobase, sikkens waterborne, etc) then tinting and spraying test panels. thats the only way it will match for sure.

That's about average (a little higher) for a good quality pint. I think I can actually get a pint of Whiteout in Deltron PPG paint (HIGH quality), which is actually a pint of white and a pint of pearl (tricolor) for $80. For single stage paints, I think it'd only run about $50.

I just bought 6 ounces (just under a pint) for $63 (for both white and pearl) to paint my BRZ fender inserts to put on my FRS. Here's my poorly estimated rough guess for paint volume requirements:

4oz will paint a few small pieces, mirrors, inserts, etc
6oz front fender, trunk or door
8oz should cover a bumper, rear 1/4 or hood

you have the general idea down. material usage depends on the paint system, reduction, color itself (some colors/pigments cover horribly), etc. i use a little more material when shooting waterborne basecoat compared to solvent basecoat, its just a different beast. yellows, bright oranges, some silvers and golds tend to cover poorly in almost all paint systems

I went back and talked to them. If we get 10 people I can get it down to $75 a pint shipped anywhere. Thats for the highest quality.
