Tire Care?

I haven't read any where stating that brands like black magic and armorall tire shine can hurt your tires. I've only had my frs for a little over a month and I noticed that the rear tires are slightly "fading" I guess is a good word, they definitely aren't as black as the front two tires. I regularly apply tire shine at least once maybe twice a week. Is this bad? Could it be affecting the overall tire cosmetically?

Usually tire shine sprays/ foams that make your tires look glossy have materials in them that attract dirt (silicone, etc). They can make your tires look really brown after a rain storm, etc.

I personally like tire sprays that contain no silicone. They don't get your tires shiney, but they always look new and black.

The best thing to do is to get the stuff you have on there off. I'd use something like Bleche White or another tire cleaner. That'll get the old spray and dirt off of there in a hurry.

I've been using Opti-bond Tire gel (From the same folk that make Opti-Coat)

I like that it's water based and won't turn your tires brown. It also lasts a good while. It's not a super glossy look, but more of a new tire look and I can go for around 2 weeks before I have to hit it again. Doesn't wash off in the rain or car wash either really.

I'm curious as to what other folks are using as well as there is always something better right?

I use 303 Aerospace Protectant. Tires look black and new, not shiny. Doesn't fling off, doesn't attract dirt, doesn't turn brown, lasts a long time.

I use sprays for daily driving and use gels when i'm going to meets. I love the shiny look but it needs to be reapplied often and looks like crap when you forget.

I don't think it hurts your tires. I mean, if they start looking like crap... i'm just going to reapply tire shine.

I have sprayable tire shine but I hate spray because it oversprays on panels and wheels and stains your drive. I apply the liquid to a cheap sponge and wipe it on the tires. Saves a lot of waste and no clean up. Plus you can do all your wheels in a minute.

Thanks guys I will look into some of the other products mentioned. I did notice it was after we had rain, and it doesn't help when I park near the lawn sprinklers haha

I think you should consider tuf shine.

Durability of years
Shine control
Stays shine for months
Easy to reapply

Prep is time consuming but worth it.

Cheers,
GREG

I've had great success with Sonax Tire Gel...I personally think it's a tad thick, but it's actually a good thing as it helps reduce sling if you're driving soon after application. I'd give it a 6/10 for gloss, but it keeps the tires looking clean and black after it's maximum gloss period. I reapply once every 4-5 washes or 3-4wks.

The way I take car of my tires is that I use a scrub brush and clean them. This gets rid of the surface dirty and agitate some of the tire's natural oils to come to surface.

I add Black Magic (I ordered Aerospace) , let it sit for a few minutes them I massage the extra off and the oils are then agitated more. Mine stays black for about 2 weeks till it starts to turn "gray"

Lengthy process, but with a SWP, it looks sharp.
