Question Longterm experience with Vortech?

So I'm thinking over installing a Vortech-supercharger-Kit on my bone-stock GT86. I've read through a couple of threads, but couldn't find a lot of information if the kit is causing any problems over time.

May I ask those of you, who already are happy owners of the vortech supercharger, if you've experienced any troubles over time? How many miles have you driven with the kit already?

I've got a bit over 8000 miles Vortech supercharged with Perrin's tune (2500 on the first 7psi blower), and I haven't had an issue yet. No intake pops. Temps have never risen past halfway on the dash gauge even under spirited driving in texas summer heat. I just do regular maintenance, I am going to perform my second blower oil change soon.

The car actually feels like it is breaking in and running better as time passes. The exhaust sound has become a good bit quieter since I first installed my headers and the engine sounds great.

Well I've only had the kit for 2 months and driven about 1500 miles so I'm not even at the first oil change yet but I haven't come across any issues as of yet either. I'm also located in Texas and its been in between 90-95 degrees just about everyday here and have yet to run into any heat issues either.

I would strongly, strongly advise waiting.

These are the reasons why:

  • If you don't have a tuner local that has experience with this car.
  • This is your primary mode of transportation.
  • There are bugs still in ECUtek
  • Documentation and some install methodology needs work
  • The car has un-proven reliability, and even less testing on FI.
  • This kit was developed almost exclusively in fair weather conditions.
  • Long term testing has not been done, in stock form or with this kit.

Like any mod, you do it at your own risk. If you aren't willing to risk it, don't do it. Vortech has a pretty good track record in my opinion, but as Dezoris has said, we don't even have long term data for just the car stock. We don't really know what is going to start happening when these things cross, say, 100k miles. If you aren't willing to foot the bill if something goes wrong, even though there are many people running the kits so far without problems, don't do it.
However if you are willing to take the risk, you are in for a lot of fun.

(sorry for not really answering your question OP, just wanted to toss in my opinion about there being more to it than just the kit)

This is all that has to be said.

I've got a Vortech on my BRZ, but it is with the full understanding that I am travelling at my own risk and willing to deal with any issues as they arise, be it from the FI or from the stock system itself.
