Autocar & Autoexpress: Subaru BRZ UK spec revealed

Subaru has revealed details of the UK specification for the Subaru BRZ, the long-awaited 2+2 coupé that will go on sale in the spring.
The rear-drive 197bhp pocket rocket will be offered in three trim levels –standard and top-spec models as well as a hardcore, stripped-out variant aimed at track day enthusiasts.
Top-specification BRZs will get 17-inch alloy wheels, a torque-sensing LSD, front, side, curtain and knee airbags, MP3 connectivity, dual-zone climate control and LED daytime running lights.
The BRZ will also come with Subaru’s VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) and can be fitted with either a six-speed short-shift manual or paddle-operated automatic transmission. The lower-spec model will be made available later this year, while the track day variant will offer scope for aftermarket tuning.
The BRZ will be available in traditional Subaru Blue, as well as silver, white, black, metallic grey and red.
It will be available with the brand’s new three-year ‘Everything Taken Care of’ (ETCo) aftercare package. The free package offers a host of potential benefits such as minor dent and scratch repairs, alloy wheel repairs and service collection and delivery.
Sales of the new Subaru BRZ – which will make its official European bow at the Geneva motor show next month – will initially be limited to around 500 UK cars per year.
The price has yet to be determined, although it is expected to be slightly more than its sister car, the Toyota GT 86. That machine costs £24,995 in standard specification.

The new Subaru BRZ sports car will cost £26,000 for the flagship model when sales start in May. Subaru has also revealed that there will be three trim levels, including a track-day special, with each model getting a comprehensive after-sales package, too.

The top-spec car will come with 17-inch alloy wheels, leather seats, cruise control, a torque-sensing limited slip differential, front, side, curtain and knee airbags, connectivity for MP3 players, climate control and LED daytime running lights.

Subaru says that a second, lower-spec car will join the line-up later in the year, as will a third stripped-out version, aimed at the tuning community and those who want to take part in track days. Both versions will cost less than the £26,000 flagship.

All BRZ models come with a 197bhp 2.0-litre flat-four cylinder petrol engine, which drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. A six-speed paddleshift automatic is available as a cost option.

As standard, all BRZs come with Subaru's Everything Taken Care of (ETCo) aftersales package, which is designed to make owning and running a Subaru cheaper and easier. The package includes minor dent and scratch repairs, a monthly wash, an annual full valet, first MOT cover and service collection and delivery.

The BRZ's sister car, the Toyota GT 86, will cost from £24,995 when it arrives around the same time. However, Toyota has yet to reveal whether that price aplies to a flagship or entry-level model, or if there will be a stripped-out track day version.

Toyota will reveal full specifications for the GT 86 at the Geneva Motor Show in early March.

Nope, unless it’s changed since I last bought one. I bought an Impreza in Sept 2010 and paid $800-900 I think for a 3 year, 30,000 mile maintenance package which I have found to be a big help.

So in the US the Scion is cheap, Subaru is more expensive and has the loaded model.
In the UK the Toyota is loaded, and Subaru gets the cheap, the loaded and the RA.
In Japan they all get every trim...

Every scheduled maintenance including the 30k mile one (which is the first more expensive one). State inspection included as well. A couple weeks ago they found nails in 3 out of my 4 tires when I took it in for an oil change and they patched those for me at no cost.
