OBD2.ca any good?
Hey all,
Has anyone ever ordered anything from this site? http://www.obd2.ca/products/obd2-bluetooth/ Obviously I'd like to save on shipping and duty costs when I order my OBD adapter, but their website seems a little sketchy. ![]() As an alternative, if anyone can recommend a place I could pick up one of these at retail in greater Vancouver, that'd be even better! |

http://torque-bhp.com/wiki/Bluetooth_Adapters With your adapter, does it auto-power-off when not in use like the ODBLink one, so as to avoid draining the car battery? Or do you have to unplug/replug the unit? If I could find one locally, I'd just buy one today. But if I'm ordering from the US and having to wait a few weeks, it seems riskier for something I might have to return. Of course, for the price difference, it does make a lot of sense. I think if I was gonna go with one of these cheaper ones, I'd go for the super mini elm327, as it's bluetooth, and a lot smaller. Pricing seems to be about the same. Anyone have one of these already and hate it? |

I recently came across this one, $10, who cares if it break?
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2013-...640630805.html A friend of mine is getting it, who don't have access to an FRS/BRZ. I'll get one once he said it actually works. :P |

The cheap one from China (ELM327 compatible) has been tested on FR-S (maybe BRZ as well) along with Torque without issue. If you look at eBay or Amazon, you can find some cheap one like $10 dollars. As @voyager2285 said, who cares if it breaks.
AFAIK these cheap one does not turn off when you shut off the engine. You will need to unplug it once you are done. It is just a nuisance IMO.

You guys've convinced me, I've ordered a cheap BT one from Amazon.ca for $16. I should have it in a week or so, we'll see how it goes. If it works ok, I'll ask a friend who's handy with electronics to install a power switch on it, that'll be easier than constantly un-and-re-plugging it.

You only need to unplug the cheap ones if your car is not driven for a while. It does not use much current. I left mine in for weeks without any issues. But I drive my car every day.

Hmmm. I generally only drive my car on weekends, since commute driving in this city is crazy talk. I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it, see how it goes. You're probably right that it won't be a problem though.

Haha so, I ordered one of these adaptors from a seller on Amazon.ca that listed shipping from Quebec. Got tracking info that it shipped... from China. NBD, I can understand shipping directly from the manufacturer.
Was supposed to be delivered today, but sketchy shipping company "flytexpress" says they attempted to deliver to my "home", in "ONTARIO SERVICE AREA, ON - CANADA". Shipping address was to my work. In Vancouver. Can anyone suggest a company to buy one of these from that's actually in Canada? Or that will actually ship via a reputable company so it won't get delivered to somewhere 4000 km away? :P |

I bought an adapter from tomtop_deals and
eonline4u without issue. Both were 10 bucks. I figured one of them would work. Both of them work great! I feel your pain though. Buying things that ship over the border is such BS. God help you if its sent with FedEx or UPS. Prepare to bend over and get raped with border fees. UPS charges 40 bucks for their border "services"... even if the item only cost 20 bucks. |

Looks like the original adaptor just got lost by this shipping company "FlytExpress", so the company I ordered it from shipped me out a new one via Canada Post, that just showed up on my desk. Looking forward to testing it out tonight.

I purchased the OBDLink MX from OBD2.ca in June and I received it in two days by Canada Post. I've been using the MS CAN capabilities on other make of cars and the data rate is super fast. |
