Kahtec 3rd brake light Module
This module, causes the 3rd brake light to flash six times then go solid. My specific module is the smart stop delay, which means after the 3rd brake light flashes i've got an eight second period, where i can lift fully off the pedal before the light flashes again. (nice feature when in bumper to bumper traffic)
Now to the write up for the DIY, Tools needed, -pliers -screwdriver -3m double sided tape to mount -scissors -brain When you order this somewhere around $32.00 shipped for me, you receive the module, a set of really pixelated instructions and three quick connects. when you look at the wiring in the trunk well going to the third brake light you will see the circuit the black wire is your ground and the green is your power. Take a quick connect and attach the red wire to the green wire on the left side of the circuit. Then take a quick connect and attach the blue wire and the white with a green chaser to the right side of the circuit. Take a quick connect and connect the black wire and the white with a black tracer wire to each other. after you have done that cut the wire that is white with a green chaser on the right side of the circuit. LOOK AT MY PICTURES BEFORE CUTTING OR CONNECTING ANYTHING Not responsible for any damage done to your vehicle. Attached photos of it installed and a video of it working [ame]http://youtu.be/Iy7c-Os61nk[/ame] |

Thanks! I purely bought this due to the fact i've been rear ended twice in a much bigger vehicle (lifted Toyota Tacoma) where the driver behind me flatout wasnt paying attention so i figure that this will draw some attention

Nice looking mod and I imagine useful to deter any more rear-ending and probably not a bad idea for track-goers as well. There was another DIY on here but with flashing rears instead of the brake strip. Personally I think the brake strips look nicer. I don't think the other mod had the smart stop delay either, which is a great addition. Do you happen to have a video with the rear taillights in the picture as well? Thanks for posting!

Tucker, nice list of "tools" needed...esp. the "brain" part! Haha. I also added some split loom tubing and couple of cable ties to make it look "factory" and prevent any wire snags when shoving something big in the trunk. The 3M double sided acrylic adhesive tape works well to attach the module. Thanks for posting this up. I've had several PM inquiries regarding "how to" and you've covered it all! Like you, I am very cautious regarding being rear ended as have had some close calls. The KAHTEC visual alert adds an extra measure of safety that might help prevent that one driver behind you texting on the road or not paying attention when there is a sudden slow down on the freeway....they say there are over 2 million rear end collisions per year. Next level of automotive technology beyond this to address the problem...they are adding sensors that automatically apply brakes. (Likely to be standard equipment on all cars in the near future.) Thanks again, man.

Nice writeup and video, I have the same module waiting to install.
Planning to install it along with doing the foglight mod to 4th brakelight, but I will only have the module flash the 3rd brake light. |

thanks for turning me onto this - i ordered one and installed it. works great. the only thing i did different was that i didn't use the quick connectors nor did i do any soldering. i actually took apart the pin connectors, and just attached the new wires directly (threaded them through the hole in the pin, and put the pin back into the plastic housing). they're held in there really snugly and there's no danger of them coming out. i also secured the wires with shrink wrap and electrical tape.

Correct, it's a small module that taps into the harness for the light. No need to touch the bulbs as its all in the wiring.
