Free 4G for your smart stereo.

Just sharing some info about FreedomPop internet provider. So if you want to connect your smart head unit, tablet, etc.

4G Devices: $39 USB dongle , $39 Wifi hotspot
or $100 iPod cover

Their data plans are: *
- 500MB Free (problably if you only need emails)
- 2 GB $3.99 / month
- 4 GB $28.99 / month

*Over Sprint's network, which brings access to EV-DO and WiMAX. Additional data for $10-$20 per gigabyte. Overage fees apply but they don't look bad.

Isn't Sprint phasing out their wimax?

I personally use free wifi hotspot that T-Mobile now includes, but for those less fortunate, this is great idea.

I bit, I think the 2GB price is actually like $17.99/month, and there's a 1GB for $9.99/month or something like that.

They seem legit. I read a Forbes article about them before buying. The idea is that they buy data in bulk from Sprint. Their phone plans give you refurb phones with software to covert text messages and voice calls to data, giving you a better rate than traditional text and call rates. They also give you 500 MB/month free but make money by getting you upgrade to more data or buy add-on services (like they add something by default that costs something like $1.99/month to automatically buy more data if you hit your limit rather than disconnecting the service, another to remind you when you've used 90% of your cap).

I've already got a 4G smartphone with unlimited data, but I don't have tethering, and I travel a lot, so for $39.99 it's worth it for me to grab the hotspot that will give me 500MB/month for free if I happen to need it.

I might set up a tablet or an old smartphone in the BRZ to use for navigation and streaming pandora (I hate having to take out my smartphone and spend a minute or two setting everything up to use it for just a short trip), and use the hotspot for that.

Former sprint employee here. If this really does run on sprint's 4G network, avoid at all cost. 4g in incredibly slow and very spotty unless you stay in a major city.

A list of any smart head units? I've seen the Parrot, but nothing else.
