Dealer wants to use what oil???
This is a direct quote from facebook from the Toyota UAE page where the locals have kicked up on everything from servicing standards to the costs. The local distributor, who is also the only distributor, came back this with quote:
"The Toyota service intervals for the Toyota 86 are specified by Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) and are set to be 7500kms for harsh environments and 15,000kms for “normal” usage, provided the recommended mineral oil such as SAE0W-20 or 5W-30 is being used. The Toyota UAE vehicles come with unique changes made to all aspects of the vehicles to suit the harsh GCC environment. This is why service intervals in the GCC are different from those followed in other parts of the world." Can anyone please confirm if we are to run Synthetic or mineral oil? I was under the impression that Synthetic was the only thing that is supposed to go into this engine. Awaiting some advise.

As far as I know, all 0W-20 oils are synthetic. I seriously doubt any mineral oil would last 15000 km on "normal" driving anyways so its probably a mistake made by Toyota

There are even very few synthetics that would last for 15,000 km's, especially a 0W-20, IMO. Hopefully, everyone there falls under the harsh environment schedule.
I wonder what this means as it relates to oil? "The Toyota UAE vehicles come with unique changes made to all aspects of the vehicles to suit the harsh GCC environment." And: "The engine oil recommended for the 86 is not a standard oil..." What oil is recommended? Is there a high TBN oil recommended? Or a special long life oil, similar to BMW Long Life specs (but that would only be a Euro ACEA A3 oil and is not available as a 0W-20). -Dennis |

Can someone please confirm that our cars should take full synthetic only? Mine has got to go for service next week at the dealer to keep the warranty and I need to make sure the correct oil is used.

Also, "synthetic" is a marketing term and has no formal industry definition. -Dennis |
