Anyone else discover they're doing a lot more (unnecessary) driving?

At first I thought it was just trying to burn off those break-in miles but since then it's become a disease, if I don't go for a drive on any given day the day feels a bit... empty.

I've owned bunches of cars but none of them have ever had me just getting in the car to go for a drive for the simple joy of going for a drive.

Guilty as charged. At first I was just trying to get it past break in (1K miles). Now it's every chance I get to take it out. I also used to commute to work by bike. That hasn't happened since buying the BRZ.

It involves doing a little math but when I bought my FR-S nine months ago I traded in a 2002 Miata. The Miata had 36,000 miles on it. That works out to about 3,600 miles a year (I'm retired). Now, you have to realize I liked that car. In fact, it was the second Miata I had owned. My FR-S ,keeping in mind we're talking nine months, will turn 10,000 within the next two weeks. Yeah, one could almost call it a disease.

No. It's necessary to maintain a positive state of mind.

At least, that's what I tell myself...

On the positive side, these things don't seem to use gas-- I've been flogging mine and getting over 26mpg. I drive for hours and hours and only use a few gallons of gas. It's ridiculous.

All my friends with STIs are always on about how they don't want to do too long of a drive or they don't want to do too much uphill on routes because of gas prices... I'm all :smug:

See, I blame the break-in period. Because I couldn't wait to use the whole tach I got used to taking the car on long drives whenever I had free time. Now the car's broken in, but it's too late: I'm used to driving it all the time. Oh dear...

I told my insurance company that I would be using it only for 5-7k per year... I have a bad feeling I will go over that limit, at least in the first year

Definitely doing more driving. I went from filling up every 7 days with my previous car (ave 21mpg) and now I'm filling up every 5 days! (at 30mpg)

Hell yeah! I find myself going to the starbucks/gas station/grocery store/___ that's just a little further away. And then taking the most indirect route home.

Had the car for 3 days.. drove close to 500 miles. Took my girl shopping around LA as an excuse, all I could think about was coming back to the car. Yep I'm addicted. Took some photos while I was at it too!

I couldn't wait for the 1,000. I was bombing it this weekend with 400 miles. Good thing I got the extended.

Provided you allow the car to fully warm up before getting into it and you don't run sustained high RPM's revving past 4k during the first 1000 is highly unlikely to harm your motor at all and is highly likely to actually help preserve your motor.

The old adage is a car that's broken in fast is fast.

C/N: I did not wait till 1000 miles passed to get into it here and there. I did change my oil at 1000 miles and I didn't do sustained high RPM operations.
