Are dry carbon fiber front 1/4 panels lighter than OEM?
Someones car popped out of gear and rolled into my front right quarter panel this morning. Since the cost of OEM fender + labor + paint is going to be enough to buy a set of dry carbon quarter (or come close) I was thinking about this as an option. Is there any real weight savings to be gained by putting these on vs. a painted OEM piece?

Dry carbon is very light. Wet carbon will probably be closer to stock weight since it's plastic with carbon fiber over it.
Although, realistically, it won't be enough weight to be noticeable. |

I'm having the work done at a friends shop regardless so paint will be applied. Just wondering if there is any benefit in adding a little $$ to insurance to get the dry carbon fenders...seems likely not.

I don't know any company other then TRD that makes it. The TRD fenders aren't even for sale to the public either.
You have to remember not everyone makes dry cf to the same standards as well, so the lightness won't all be the same. In general when it comes to dry cf, OEM fitment and quality cf is extremely expensive. |
